These work great, I used one to install firmware onto an ESP-12F. It's nice that the ends use female connectors, it makes these cables more reusable.

Complete junk.First no documentation. That one was reasonably easy to fix, open the plug and the pinout is written on the PCB.The chip used is not the PL2303TA mentioned in the description, it's a bad PL2303HXD clone with various issues. Standard drivers do not properly work. Under Linux this means you can receive, but not send data.

You can find a lot of USB to Serial devices for conventional DB9 or DB25 based devices, but these work best with serial communications to a number of Arduino style boards, where conventional connections don't exist. When using an Arduino, or Pi Pico, or any similar hobbyist board, they work great for serial-based communications outside of the board's built-in USB connection. The problem is, the loose connectors on this board are female. Most hobbyist boards do not have serial pins sticking out of them. So, to use these, you have to solder pins onto your hobbyist board and connect the adapter's loose ends to those pins, or you'll have to have a hobbyist board that already has header pins on them.Beyond those restrictions, you'll get good serial communications from this USB adapter.
