It's a wood rasp, you know designed for wood and other "soft" materials. It has worked well on wood the couple of times that I have used it so far and thus I have no complaints. The teeth seem plenty sharp for its intended use, and yes, you can probably get buy with some light filing work on soft metals such as brass or aluminum, but I would not use it on harder metals like steel or cast iron, as that is not what it is designed for. Even aluminum and brass will have a tendency to clog up a file, so I would keep that to a minimum. I see this being useful on metal as in brass pin that is holding a wood handle on, or similar kind of thing. Overall, while this probably isn't a tool that you will pass down to your kids, it is a good everyday use wood wasp, and besides, files generally have a limited lifespan before the cutting edges becomes dull. I am happy with it for what it is, and would recommend it if you need a cheap rasp to throw in your kit.

This is a review of the JoyoSense brand 4 Way Wood Rasp - Premium High Carbon Steel Hand File and Round Rasp, Half Round Flat & Needle Files, Metal File Set for Sharping Wood and Metal Tools. I received this product free of charge to share my product experiences with Amazon customers to help them make informed buying decisions. This is an honest review from a real person. I didn’t pay for the item, so I will only comment on the apparent quality and utility, not on the value. Prices fluctuate regularly and I always recommend shopping around and comparing what’s available to get your best deal on the date you decide to buy.Well, it’s a rasp, and I shouldn’t be surprised it’s not as good on metal as a good old fashioned Mil file, but for the price it’s tough to beat. It’s a convenient size for work that needs some precision (on a large scale). It is easy to control and maneuver.I tried this rasp on various woods (pine, redwood, alder, mahogany, and some hard old oak). It does well with wood of all types. Doesn’t clog too easily with wood. I had mixed results with metal. It did ok with some carbon steel (think lawn mower blades, angle iron, hatchet blades), but hardly scratched stainless steel. In this sense, it met my expectations, but I’ll stick to my mil files for metal and save this one for wood.4 stars.I rate products according to the following scale:1 Star: Do not buy. Very poor quality, functionality, or other issues.2 Stars: Do not buy. Not as bad as a 1 Star, but it still has major downsides.3 Stars: There are some issues as described in my review. Shop around before you buy4 Stars: This item met my expectations and functions as intended.5 Stars: I love this item. It exceeds my expectations for quality and function.

Files and rasps are essential to anyone that does any form of woodworking. Even if you don't specifically woodwork, but maybe you work with wood items and occasionally you repair or restore the wood those items are made of, a file and a rasp can be pretty important to have. The item I received for this order is both a flat fike as well as a rounded rasp. It's made of high carbon and it has a look and feeling of being premium. It doesn't have a "cheap" feel to it that is obvious when a product has been it's obvious the item was made to just pump out and quality isn't really considered. This item does not have that deel whatsoever. It does it's job and it does well. The even more amazing part is how inexpensive it is. I've seen similar files/rasps at big box stores for double and triple the amount they're asking for this product specify. I would recommend this.

I was looking for something that would be able to take a really bad axe head and sharpen it up without it taking a century with my traditional stone sharpener. I found this rasp and it has 4 different idk what you would call that. The grit, maybe. So I picked one up. It arrived fast and without any damage to the packaging or the file. I took it out and immediately gave it a try on the axe head and I was impressed. I was able to get it down to a more manageable edge for the stone. I also since have used it to sharpen my mower blade. It made it really easy to get it perfectly balanced on a nail. I give it 5 stars all the way around....

This has four consistencies, each on the edge of one side. I will probably need gloves to use it properly, but they feel solid and the four-in-one feature is good as I do not need to figure out where to store a full set of rasps.I already have a few projects around the house I will be using this for after verifying its functionality on a plastic tub that a hole was cut into, with no real tools to cut into plastic.

I have a set of files and rasps with a plastic handle, which this lacks, but the negatives really end there. If you have a wood working project, or are trying to break out of jail in the Old West, then this rasp will make short work of whatever you put in front of it. For six bucks?! No handle required. Calluses are a sign of craftsmanship.
