First off, Dodge really let us down with their design of this linkage being held in place by two rubber grommets. I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4, and this is the second time I've had to replace this linkage because the rubber dry rots and the linkage falls off of the truck, probably on the highway where it possibly could damage somebody else's vehicle. Way to drop the ball on this one, Dodge! Anyway, this aftermarket linkage is pretty good quality. In order to push the grommets in place, I dropped them into boiling water for less than 1 minute, and then used a small hose clamp to compress the rubber. I removed the hose clamp and pushed the rubber into place and allowed it to expand inside of the bracket. This worked really well, after trying to push them in place, even using a little bit of lubricant prove to be frustratingly unsuccessful. After watching a few YouTube videos, I decided to purchase an all-metal adjustable J-Bolt and keep it in my truck for the next time this needs to be replaced, especially if I'm in a situation where I need to use my four-wheel drive and I'm not aware the linkage has already failed, like what happened to me the first time this part failed and I was unable to use my four wheel drive on snow and ice. The all metal j-bolt could cause some rattling noise, but it will 100% not fail as their is no rubber to dry rot. I hope this review helps some of you guys experiencing the same problem I did.

Dodge dealer told me one of the grommets had been discontinued. The other was available for $31. The other discontinued one was available but you had to buy the transfer case shift arm for $55. Thought there had to be something else available out there. Good ol buddy Amazon had both grommets ( I only needed 2) and the adjustable metal linkage or $13 and some change as opposed to $86. Where do you think I'm gonna go for my next auto parts???
