My son says it’s great. It’s breakable as far as functionality but he says it lasts a long time

Wide stick, coated to help limit dusty fingers and has a nice feel while writing: Lines are clear. This chalk does not scratch or mar the board surface. Are you looking at this as a replacement for Hagoromo?: Rikagaku chalk has a slightly smaller circumference and is about 1/2 inch shorter than Hagoromo. It is packed in plastic trays, rather than nestled in little foam beds like Hagoromo, so there seems to be more breakage in transit. Also, I can't explain why because I'm not a chalk production expert, but this chalk is definitely dustier than Hagoromo.Overall, if you're a chalk nerd like I am and found Hagoromo chalk oddly satisfying ... I think you'll derive nearly the same feeling from Rikagaku.

The chalk is good, not great! The dust from the chalk settles quicker and there is less of it but I would not say it is dustless. One really annoying thing about it is the sound it makes (the dreaded screeching sound) when the chalk surface becomes too worn and flat surface used to write widens. To avoid the screeching, I need to turn the chalk to get a new edge. I am not writing with the chalk but making big loops without lifting my hand (NILD therapy). For my needs, it is just ok. Otherwise, it seems sturdier then the typical chalks and produces less dust.

My class likes doing work on their science lab desks with chalk. Buckle in for a dramatic story: I began the year and found a box of chalk left by my predecessor and had been using it. I got more chalk through the school and it was crayola an du septic, and it is TRASH (see top line of photo). I knew I just needed to order more of the other brand, which shall remain nameless. Why? Because it is the best chalk ever made, but they seemed to have stopped making it in the SEVENTIES, and I am gatekeeping it from you good people. See bottom line of photo for the most perfect chalk ever. Distraught, I went to Amazon to find a replacement and found this. Lab tables are less writeable than chalkboards, so they require softer and more pigmented chalk. I was explaining my chalk woes to other teachers and one gave me a piece of Hagoromo. See the photo for the comparison. This brand is very similar! It writes well. My second photo demos what all of the chalks look like after one (1) swipe of an eraser (not back and forth) to give you an idea of eraseability. All of them erased very well once I gave it a couple more swipes.Hope you enjoyed this journey with me. Happy chalking!

The chalk was NOT dustless and all the pieces are broken. Would not order again or even slightly recommend.

There was no effort to protect the box with bubble wrap or cardbord, it was just placed in a soft Amazon bag. The chalk itself is good as I have other boxes of this brand.

Previously I bought into the hype of Hagoromo chalk and used that for a few years. I use about 100 pieces of chalk per year. This chalk here is actually way better than Hagoromo. It leaves less dust on your fingers. Less dust falls to the ground when you're writing on a chalkboard. Hagoromo leaves a huge mess on the ground. This chalk is even way cheaper. It's packed better too and less likely to break in shipping. Overall, if you're looking for an alternative to other fancy chalks out there, this is the way to go.
