What is FebSmart Self-Powered Technology?

FebSmart Self-Powered Technology is a new solution to add more power supply on USB 3.0 expansion cards. The old versionPCI Express USB 3.0 cards need to plug power cables from Desktop PC’s power supply unit. Even added on additional power, sometime it still lacks power when running few high power-consuming devices simultaneously such as USB HDD/SSD enclosures and USB NVME enclosures. PCI Express slot can provide 75W max power almost 12V/6.25A for PCIE devices. FebSmart add 4X voltage transformer on USB 3.0 card will pick up 12V/5A power and convert to 5V/12A 60W. Each USB 3.0 port will get 5V/2A 10W max powersupply for USB 3.0 devices. Most of the high-power consumption devices just need 4~8W which means this USB 3.0 expansion card can light up 7X high power-consumption devices simultaneously. FebSmart built 8X electronic safty fuse, 4X voltage stable inductance and 7X voltage stable capacitors on the board, will protect users’ data and USB 3.0 devices. Never burn USB 3.0 device and never lost data. Add 7-Ports superspeed USB 3.0 expansion card on Desktop PCs. Enjoy more stable, superspeed and safe USB 3.0 connection with FebSmart.

I thought the USB port on one of my computers went bad. Then I found out after upgrading another PC the problem was actually the Fresco chipset did not work well with some of my devices. I needed a card with internal USB C port to connect my case front USB port. The only cards that have this in a 1X PCI that I could find all had Fresco chips. I bought this card with the standard internal USB 3.0 connector and used an adapter to convert it over to USB C. It works great and I have no compatibility issues with the NEC based chipset. In fact, through put increased when tested with my Oculus. I am getting the expected speeds out of my UHS II card reader that refused to stay connected to the other cards I tried. It does what can be expected of so many USB ports on a 1X PCI lane. I wish that my motherboard had a 4X slot to use an even faster card but this one works as advertised.Took less than 5 minutes to install this card and windows 11 automatically recognized it. I did not need to install drivers.I put up with intermittent connections and am happy this is solid and my transfers from my camera are no longer interrupted.

My motherboard only has two USB 2.0 headers, and one USB 3.0 header. Too easy to fill them up for USB ports. In comes this nifty card so that I can have an extra USB 3.0 header to use internally in the PC, as well as extra USB ports for use, without using unreliable USB header splitters.Still going strong after ~5 months, very much recommendable!

I'm happy with some parts of this USB 3.0 PCIe card from FebSmart - Model U7S-Pro. This PCIe add-in card provides 5 USB-A ports on the slot cover plate along with an internal USB 3.0 19-pin header for up to 2 more USB ports to connect to. I used this card to upgrade my older Windows 7 system based on an Intel 2500k processor, adding USB 3.0 functionality through the well-supported Renesas UPD720201 controller (after installing the driver). The driver version available on the FebSmart website was 3.0.23.0.Installing the card was straightforward and I placed it into an available PCI-E 1x slot on my motherboard (PCIE 2.0 due to age). I found the included retention screw unnecessary. I was thrilled to see my USB thumb drive transfer files at 120 MB/sec from the rear ports, a significant improvement. The problem I've had is with the internal USB 19-pin header not functioning. I tried a few different front panel connectors I have and I could only get an odd one salvaged from a PC case that wired both a USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 port up to the USB 3.0 connector. In that connector, I was able to get the USB 2.0 port to work, perhaps related to it only needing about half the wires/connections. On the USB 3.0 port of that connector, the drive warmed (suggesting power) but never connected (lacking some of the data pins perhaps?). Upon further inspection, it looks like the internal header was poorly soldered in place on the card because all the holes for the connector look dry and unfilled with solder. Ultimately, I gained 5 rear USB ports but wasn't able to upgrade my computer's front panel ports to USB 3.0 because the internal header wouldn't function.

This expansion card has enough USB 3.0 ports to connect a lot of devices to old systems that need an upgrade or a boost in performance. Its only problem is the PCIE X1 interface that has a single lane of data communication. In my case, I use it for external hard drives, CD drives, wireless devices, and memory drives. So It works fine.People trying to use something that requires more bandwidth better look elsewhere.

This seems to be a really well made card. I was not previously familiar with this brand but out of curiosity I checked out some of their other expansion cards and they make some really good specialty items. For this card in particular, it has a single Renesas 5Gbps controller, paired with a hub controller so all ports on this card share the 5 Gbps bandwidth. This really isn't a big issue though and is standard practice for most of these expansion cards. If you really need the dedicated 5Gbps per channel (such as for VR or something similar), this company does also make a card with each port having its own controller. But that is neither here nor there. This card does what is was designed to do and does it well. I love that it also has an internal USB 3.0 header so this card can support 7 ports total (5 on the card, and 2 via the header) and it does all this on only PCIe power (no external power connection required. This does limit the output to a maximum of 50w/10A total (or 10w, 2A per port) but this is more than sufficient for most uses. If you need quick charging for your device you would need a powered hub, or better yet just a dedicated charger for such devices. This card is not meant for that. All of that being said, as long as you understand the limitations of this card, it can be perfect for you. It was for me in my case where I used it on an old machine with only two onboard USB 3.0 ports. And for that it worked wonderfully. I have had no problems with this card, and I think for the quality and price it is an excellent value.
