Installed this sensor in about 10 minutes. Fixed a misfiring problem I was having on my Mercruiser 5.0. I also replaced the ignition coil while I was in there. Boat starts easier, no longer misfires at high RPM, and doesn't die when I shift from fwd/reverse. I recommend changing your ignition sensor, distributior cap, spark plugs, and ignition coil every 250 hours or so, it will make your boat run 100% better!

Product did not work. Installed and did not work properly at all. I took my boat to a reputable dealership/mechanic who diagnosed the problem. The sensor was in his words, junk. Only buy quicksilver. More money now but less in the long run.

Simple install and solved two frustrating issues. Removing the old sensor required grinding the plastic case. Resolved the hard start, no start on my vintage 1985 Cruisers inc. Baron 222 restoration project. I also could not get the engine past half throttle without stalling. Mercruiser 305 GM Crusader, 230 horsepower. Freshened up coil, cap, rotor, wires, plugs while I was at it. The starter was drawing too much amperage dropping voltage below the 9 volts necessary to signal the Thunderbolt Ignition to fire the coil. Rebuilt starter. Now starts are instant, 46 mph, and fuel economy doubled! Funny not many people talk about this important sensor!!

My boat is 2004, manufactured in 2003. The original part looked nothing like this. They don’t make the old style. Mine was fried and hard to get out. I very carefully dug the old one out, in pieces. You have to get every little piece out, to get the new one in. Tight fit. I use very sharp, small wood working chisels to get the pieces out. If you damage the plastic housing, you will have to replace the whole distributor. A whole new distributor is a good idea, I just didn’t want to.

After what seemed to be an eternity during peak boating season. I was at my wit's end contemplating the ole hand grenade down the hatch fix. Until I came across this. I was skeptical because nothing else had worked to get the spark I needed to fire the ole 350. Well for $40 this baby packed the punch I've been looking for. Wired it all up and kablaaaammm the 35 year old boat motor came back to life! It was the happiest day of my life that day. No issues after 15 more uses!Highly suggest!!!!
