I use this for a speed controller on an attic exhaust fan and it seems to be the ticket

Does a pretty good job. Don't run at too low a speed, only > 65%.

Working great to control the blower speed on my old trapper wood stove.

It regulates voltage . The electric motor I wanted to control wouldn't run under voltage.

I ordered this AC controller to use with my fixed-speed orbital sander that sometimes gets too aggressive, making it difficult to control. With this AC voltage controller, I was able to adjust the speed of my sander and achieve better results with a variety of sanding grits and materials.I did have one issue with the rheostat. The speed control knob rotated past the minimum and maximum settings. Upon examination, I discovered that the nut securing the rheostat to the case was loose. After removing the knob, I was able to tighten the nut firmly. After turning the rheostat to zero, I aligned the knob and reattached it simply by pressing down, thereby eliminating the problem. It would have been a better design to utilize a lock washer with the nut or a combination lock nut to keep the assembly from moving.I was planning to give this AC controller a five-star review despite the problem with the rheostat but I also spotted an issue with their marketing. It really irritates me when companies market products when they have no understanding of how to use them, or when their marketing photos are misrepresentative. If you look at the online “APPLICATION†photo, the top-left device is a BATTERY-operated drill/driver! Really?Regardless, after a little repair work, I was able to utilize the speed controller with a variety of AC voltage devices. If you have fixed-speed AC voltage hand tools, you should consider adding this product to your shop.

The "AC Fan Speed Controller, 100V~120V 15A 4000W Motor Variable Speed Controller with Overload Protection,Electric Motor Voltage Regulator for Router Rheostat Fan" I received works pretty much as described. However, take note that for an AC fan to adequately vary its speed, voltage should be kept constant, and frequency should be varied. This controller varies voltage, not frequency. So you may experience excessive humming at certain settings.I ordered this because of the voltage display and current handling capacity. It acts a little like a variac which can help testing various products.I tried this on a laminar flow hood that is exhorting too much air flow. It did the job, but as I mentioned... it also introduced hum. It's a decent variable AC voltage controller. Worthy of recommendation imo.

I got this to use with a rather nice metal, shop style floor fan that just doesn't have a true "low" mode. What is it with floor fans that seem to have 3 different "high" settings?Anyway, I plugged the fan into this thing and was immediately impressed by the granularity of the adjustments. This controller can adjust the voltage to the tenths of volts and it is reflected in the fan itself. I didn't realize how much difference 0.3 volts could make in the amount of noise a regular fan makes. I suppose it has something to do with coil whine or motor resonance or some other magic but this thing has turned my loud annoying shop fan into a pleasure! There are now multiple sweet spots that I have found at different speeds for the fan, I just wish this controller had a memory function!I was worried this would get hot but so far it has stayed cool to the touch even after hours of use. This simple little controller has been a nice surprise.
