has unusually small diameter. I spent weeks trying to find the part, enough frustration to drive anyone insane. I found this simple clever gadget on AMAZON, a big metal nut with 3 triangulated threaded holes into which you screw in one straight prong. It took a few seconds to put it together, and as much to fit it to the faucet. You can screw the 3 adjusting s each hole. It screws down to almost nothing, so it fits any known faucet, and it looks great, shiny metal that could be SS or similar. The best inventions are the simplest, this is just one of them, brilliant.

For some reason, most of the handle you find for your outside faucets are super cheap and thread out in short order. This clamps down and holds tight. Not the greatest looking thing in the world, but gets the job done.

I bought 5 different replacement knobs and none would fit the odd shape. I saw this and wished I had thought of it. Took a few seconds to use. No more channel locks!! I did have to put a flat piece of plastic over the nut and hole then put the center screw back so water didn’t shoot straight out from under the screw. Returned the other 5.

Great product! Really saved us from having to replace a whole hose bib!

In theory this should be a great design. When you open the package, it's a lot smaller than it looks in the ad. Please note the scale of size next to my keys for reference. In hindsight, it is about the right size for the job. There are three screws, 120° apart, that thread into a hex nut. A hex wrench is provided that fits nicely. However, it is not designed for a square shank valve stem, which is what the water main valve has in my 35-year-old house. This would have been a great fit if the valve stem was a different shape, like round, or hexagonal. More importantly, the valve stem only projects out 1/4" which is simply not enough sticking out for the screws to bite onto. The screw tips were half past the end of the valve shaft. My only option to make this work would be quite risky, involving getting out of grinding wheel to try to remove more material to give this device a longer stem to work with.It might work in your situation, but it definitely was a fail in mine.

After trying other options for an older spigot, this item worked like a charm.

Why on earth would someone limp along using mini-vice-grips for years (see photo) instead of just replacing the valve? Because I was afraid a rusted pipe might break in the wall -- so I was following a policy of perennial procrastination in the name of "do no harm." This device gets five stars for innovation alone, but it feels strong and works great. You'll have to decide if it's worth the asking price, or if you just want to use a cheaper tool like my vice-grips. While this device is more long-term, it's still a hack.I ordered this without fully realizing I would have to remove the (stripped) handle, which I've faced before. I could never remove the rusted nut because the handle wasn't giving me enough room to get a big enough pliers on the shaft. I finally took a hack saw to the bad handle, and when I finally got it off I was able to put some big vice-grips on the shaft, and I got the nut off! At this point, I would think I could probably buy a new real handle, but this is pretty cool, so I'll stick with it. It's definitely underwhelming when you get the little plastic baggie with the parts (including the necessary allen wrench), but if it solves your problem, and the price is right, you'll appreciate it.
