The easy hand-cranked operation provides a steady, DC voltage output across the entire range for consistently reliable readings. The Model 6503 has three test voltages for insulation resistance testing: 250V, 500V and 1000V. Test voltages are generated in full across the entire measurement range. Compact self-contained package; folded crank. Large direct reading scale. Acceptance testing and preventive maintenance. Test motors, cables, switchgears and electrical wiring installations. Continuity checks. Check domestic and industrial wiring. Insulation tests: test voltage (250V, 500V, 1000V): 1 to 11 Mohm; 11 to 500 Mohm, 1 to 11 Mohm; 11 to 500 Mohm, 10 to 110 Mohm; 110 to 5000 Mohm; Short circuit current: 5mA (max); accuracy: 2.5 percent of scale length; automatic discharge: 8 s/micro F; charging time (250V, 500V, 1000V): 0.2 s/, 0.5 s/, 0.5 s/. Resistance tests discharging time (auto): 8 s/. Voltage tests/safety check: voltage range: 0 to 600Vac, frequency: 45 to 450Hz, accuracy: 3 percent of full scale length. Black case, lid painted safety-yellow, with heavy duty gray polycarbonate front panel; O-ring sealed against water and dust; folding crank. Degree of protection: IP54 with cover and IP52 without (IEC 60529 Ed. 92). Domaine of reference: 23 degree C +/- 3 degree C. I've had a model 1250n for a very long time and it's never failed . No battery's or cords to worry about . However you must maintain a constant crank speed ( there's a led speed indicator) to alert you . It's more involved to operate than electronic units but it has been an old school benchmark megger forever . I use mine to augment my electronic units .

When you're testing something you definitely don't want the batteries to konk out in the middle of a job. This one depends on you to crank the windings for power, but it doesn't take much - dependable and easy to use. Ans for a meggar, the price was right.
