A Must Have for Home Brewing
- For those of you not very familiar with Airlocks, this is a device that is needed when brewing things like beer, wine, meads, etc.
- You just fill with 1/2 or 1/3 water, pop on the cap, and plug it into your fermentation vessel.
- The airlock will allow the gas from the fermentation to escape while keep air and contaminants out.
- An airlock just *feels* more professional, and is reusable, and is far less susceptible to clogging.
- High transparency airlock help you keep and eye on how your fermentation is progressing better than the traditional plastic 'cylinder shaped' air locks.
- When an airlock bubbles, it simply means that the air pressure inside the bucket or carboy is sufficiently high to push up the little column of water and relieve the pressure.
- If it fails to bubble, all it means is that the pressure within the fermenter isn’t high enough to make it do so. This can easily happen if the lid isn’t fully closed, or if the seal isn’t perfect.
- Questions: How to prevent the stopper slide out of the jug/carboy?
- Answer: It will slide when the pressure in the carboy increases and the mouth of the glass bottle has water. Wipe off the water stains on the mouth of the jug before use.
HOW TO USE:
- Clean and sanitize the airlock and plug before every use.
- Remove the cap, then full the half of the air lock with the water or vodka.
- Put the cap back on and insert the tip of the airlock with silicone grommet into the lid. Make sure it seals up the bottle tightly.
- Gasses are released during the fermentation process.you will see bubbles forming and escaping through the water in the airlock.
- Airlocks prevent oxygen from entering the ferments. Oxygen will ruin the fermentation process.
- Sometimes, remove the airlock to ""burp"" the ferment, check on your progress and release pressure (this step may not be required depending on your project)

This package was just what I needed. I had several food safe buckets with lids that I needed hole seals and bubblers for. Made great DIY wine fermentation buckets that saved me money and made it possible to start multiple wines at once.

Bag the products came in (not the mailer, the bag that was inside the mailer) was torn and one of the airlocks was missing, so I only received 7 of the 8. For me personally it wasn't a big enough issue to cause a huge stink over and get it refunded, but it's clear to see the bag tore because it was too small to actually hold all 8 airlocks. As far as the product themselves go, the plastic is of decent enough quality and it's really hard to mess up drilling a few holes in them. I drilled 1/4 inch holes then reemed them to 3/8 which is very important to do if you want a snug fitting grommet that doesn't tear. They fit as well as any other grommets I've ordered.

So far I've only used these air locks for fermenting foods like pepper sauces and sauerkraut. They worked as advertised and with relative ease. The most difficult bit was creating a hole in the lid of the fermentation vessel to match the diameter of the air lock's stem (I didn't have a drill handy at the time), but once installed, they worked like a charm. Note: If you're planning on doing your fermenting on shelves or in the fridge, keep in mind that these airlocks add 2-3 inches of height to the jar, so plan your shelf-spacing accordingly.

These are pretty standard airlocks - they work pretty well. This set is great because they have the rubber grommets so you can put them into any food-grade bucket. This was a great deal for the price and it was very easy to convert any bucket into a fermenting bucket.

Same shape as the others, but, these are not very clear plastic and they are not as durable as the ones at my local brick and mortar store. That said, I will probably buy these ones again because they are cheaper in cost. They do the same job as the brick and mortar ones I buy, but not as nice to look at and not as durable. I will most likely buy these ones again because of the added grommets, which really I really need when using mason jar lids that I drilled holes into for these airlocks.

Bought these air locks to use on 5 gallon buckets with lids. Simple enough to drill a hole in the lid and install the rubber seal and airlock. Seems to be doing the job as my brew is bubbling nicely through the air lock.
