This thing has done nothing but tangle. Didn't make it 10 feet into the line before I hit my first snag. Now it's practically useless.

The mason line it came with was fine, and since it's really the same price as a roll of mason line without a dispenser, I decided to give it 3 stars. However, the whole point of this was the dispenser and being able to manage the line easier. I did not experience this. Instead of having to deal with easy tangles here and there with a normal roll, the dispenser caused a mass level of chaos, immediately. The cutter maybe worked once, kind of, and then never again. I will use the dispenser as a holder, in between projects, to keep the line from unraveling in my tool box, but the dispenser part is useless.

I'm going to be re-doing and expanding our deck, so that means I needed mason line to set up batter boards for locating new post footers. And if you're like me, you have a tangle of old mason line that will take way too long to untangle, and you may also have a spool of mason line that has managed to unspool itself and tangle itself too.When I saw this spool with a dispenser to keep it from unspooling, as well as a cutter, I figured that was the solution to all my aggravations. And it is! This dispenser has a "toggle" on top that is spring loaded. it allows you to pull out the line, but it keeps it from going back into the dispenser. The toggle also acts as a cutter so you don't need anything else to cut the string. That said, I was expecting the cutter would act like a pair of scissors, when in reality it is just a single sharp blade that plunges into a narrow slot. So instead of it cutting the line easily like a pair of scissors, you have to sort of pull on the line to force it into the blade, which then cuts it. Okay, beggars can't be choosers--it works and it's better than having to search for your knife.The line feels high quality, the braiding is consistent, and it's super hi-viz yellow.This spool cost a little bit more than the rolls at the big orange box store, but I think it's worth it to not have a loose spool unrolling in my yard and in my workshop.

I did get some tangled line a couple times, but it was easy to work it out.

Convenient, refillable dispenser and cutter for braided mason's line. Perfect for running straight lines for masonry or carpentry work.The line can be extracted with or without pressing the trigger ("button") on top of the canister. Pressing the trigger just relieves a little bit of the tension. The cutter works well, and the line itself appears to be of decent quality.

Line binds inside carrier. Not recommended.
