Update 1/27/25:I received a replacement expander, this one works much better. This tool will be invaluable for placing buttonholes and buttons. Thanks for the no-hassle and quick replacement. I can change my rating from 2 stars to 5 stars. I do recommend this tool, not only for sewing but also for other household usage .I ordered this item to use with sewing. I thought it would be helpful with spacing buttonholes and buttons. But now, I don't know if it's usable. I just received it in the mail on 1/24, expanded it, and one of the spokes popped out.

The first day I got this I had to fight to open it all the way. Once I did it was nearly impossible to close. While trying to close it a couple aluminum brackets bent. Now it does not open evenly. It finally closes correctly. But is a waste. It no longer can perform its only function. It is no longer accurate unless fully stretched out. It takes less time to use a ruler at this point. Pretty disappointing.

Cheap, but definitely feels flimsy and easy to bend, as title mentions it works well for equally spaced markings for screw placement in woodworking projects. Thanks, Matthew Peech.

I cannot tell you how often I've messed up math on buttonholes or grommets while making items of clothing! This makes the entire process so quick and easy, and the buttons ALWAYS line up, if I could give it 10 out of 5 stars, I would. I love her forever!
