As an artist, I use a ruler quite often to lay out the initial line work and dimensions in my drawings. Coming from an architectural drafting background where these triangular scales are 110% mandatory, I am very comfortable using one. Back in high school both my instructor and I used this exact brand (Alvin) for all of our drafting equipment (with the exception of a few Staedtler products here and there). As an artist today, I find this tool invaluable for all the variations and situations that require one of the six sides of this scale. Personally, I only work in metric because it's much simpler to use and saves time and headaches when scaling your drawing up or down in size from the reference. For example, say you measure a line to be 10 centimeters and your doing a drawing that is at 1.75 scale. Its much easier and cleaner (smaller decimals) to translate 17.5 centimeters than it is to scale up .4375 of an inch to .765625 of an inch. It's easier and faster to draw a line exactly 17.5 cm than it is to draw one at .765625 inches. Not to mention you won't strain your eyes as much.

I've been drawing house plans for out next house, and this has been a great little tool. My only complaint is that I wish the numbers would display the opposite of how it is (so you could read measurements on the side closest to you and draw a line in front of the ruler, not on the back side of it. See picture of product and you'll see what I mean. Ie.. If you're reading inches, you'd need to flip the ruler left-right and then read the measurements and draw the line behind the ruler, not in front of it. Perhaps all architect rulers are like this though. Great quality for the price. I don't forsee it breaking unless I forcibly hit/bend it.

Seems well made it's exactly as advertised. There may be more expensive options out there but if you're like me and just piddling around with drawing floor plans this is all you need.

We bought several of these, can you ever have enough, as we can never find them when we want one. Have extras in the truck. Work great.Gary

My ruler came with a chip on one side that I really don’t use so it was fine, but my commonly used sides keep chipping more and more. Only ever used pencil with these, no knifes or anything so there’s really no reason it should be chipping as much. Ruined a few too many lines.

Since I no longer need a professional model I decided to buy this student type to replace the one I damaged while moving things around in my storage unit. It is quite well made and after some checking with a micrometer I can say that it is very accurate as well. Very happy with my purchase.

Purchased the metric architectural ruler and as some of the others have mentioned it's lower quality plastic. The finishing and overall appearance of the plastic is poor, although the print and lines are easy to read. Unfortunately two of the corners had chips in them which wasn't surprising as it came in a box that was just large enough to squeeze in with no protection around it.
