Weather Station Features & Specifications

The solar-powered Ambient Weather WS-4000 is an all-in-one weather station designed for comprehensive environmental monitoring. It features sensors for temperature, humidity, haptic rain, light, ultraviolet, air pressure, and ultrasonic wind. Remotely monitor your weather station data on the easy-to-use Ambient Weather Network (AWN) App or by visiting ambientweather.net.

All-In-One Design

The weather station has a sleek design that fits easily into any setting. It mounts effortlessly on a 1" diameter pole without requiring any tools.

Ultrasonic Wind Sensor

Ultrasonic wind uses a series of sound emitters and microphones to detect even the calmest of breezes for accurate speed and direction measurements.

Haptic Rain Gauge

The haptic rain gauge uses a piezoelectric sensor to measure raindrop pressure and calculate water volume, eliminating the need for a rain bucket and reducing maintenance. This design is also less attractive to birds and more resilient to high-speed winds and debris.

Power Supply

A solar panel on top of the station acts as the primary power supply, and 2 x AA batteries offer backup power, ensuring continuous operation.

Color TFT Display and WH32B Sensor

The WS-4000 weather station includes the same high-quality console found with our WS-2000 and WS-5000 Stations. This color console features a TFT display and can display a vast number of our optional sensors, from thermometers, hygrometers, air quality sensors, soil and leaf moisture sensors, lightning sensors, and leak detectors. The console will come with a WH32B Sensor, which will receive temperature, humidity, and air pressure measurements.

Additional Console Features

  • Sunrise/Sunset Times: Displays daily sunrise and sunset times
  • Forecasting: Provides a pressure-based weather forecast
  • Moon Phases: Tracks and displays the current moon phase
  • Customizable Alarms: Set alarms to trigger under specific, user-defined conditions
  • Lightning, Leak, and Soil Moisture Status: When paired with optional add-on sensors

Optional Sensors (sold separately)

The WS-4000 supports the following optional sensors:

  • (8) WH31E, WH31P, WH31PF, or WH51RF
  • (1) WH31L-AA
  • (8) WH31SM
  • (8) WH51LW
  • (4) WH31LA
  • (1) PM25
  • (1) PM25IN or AQIN.

The WH31E, WH31P, WH31PF, and WH51RF share the same 8 total channels and display on the console.

The additional sensor models do not display on the console, but pass-through to the Ambient Weather Network and can be viewed there.

Great weather station is an updated version of an earlier one I had. Very easy to set up but i have a problem with the rain feature as it disables its recording if it looses power. I can reset it manually but I was unable to get someone from their customer support to get in contact with me.

Shortly after receiving the WS-4000 and mounting pole, I went through the setup as described in the manual (as usual, I ignored all the YouTube and Faecesbook stuff). Everything worked properly on the first "try", and continues to do so. This replaced a very old Davis Vantage Vue which was no longer repairable, and the accuracy is so close, I cannot see the difference. The WS-4000 has a far better and more informative display. Being able to "see" my home weather while away from home is a great feature.

It was time to replace a 4 year old 2902 where the internals were finally succumbing to the salt air on the Oregon coast. I wanted something a bit more capable of adding more sensors, in particular air quality sensors. I also was attracted to the lack of moving parts so I bought the 4000The good news is that it works as described and was much easier to set up than the 2902 was 4 years ago. The sensors connected automatically and the WiFi and app connections were very straightforward. The bad news is it’s a bit pricey, though that’s probably to be expected for the newest, most advanced integrated unit from Ambient. Unfortunately some of the documentation hadn’t kept up with the new unit (like upgrading firmware instructions). But tech support was quick to respond to walk me through the challenges. Finally, while it’s advertised as being able to support both indoor and outdoor air quality sensors, unfortunately they don’t tell you they use the same channel on the control center so you can actually only use one or the otherOverall, strong positives that gave me 80% of perfect. So it gets 4 stars from me

This is the newest in the Ambient Weather group. I have the sensor mounted on top of a pole 18 feet in the air, located about 200 feet from the indoor monitor. The signal easily passes through the brick and heavy drywall of my home. The display is colorful, giving a host of info. I added two indoor sensors to monitor home and garage temps. It interfaces with the AWN app to give any info on the go. The haptic rain sensor and ultrasonic wind speed/ direction sensors are very accurate. A very nice piece!

Put it on a UPS if possible. If rain doesn't measure, and after a power disconnect/outage, hit the settings wheel, then down arrow 18 times, then the magnifier/plus key and change it to piezo rain gauge, -not- the trad rain gauge. It will work then. Otherwise measures everything pretty accurate, no more rain cup to clean out.

The haptic rain gauge calibration is ridiculous. I live 28 miles from a NWS reporting station and tech support told me that is too far from my location for accurate local data. My only alternative is to stare at the display and monitor the rate of rain per hour to get the necessary date to determine the amount of gain to be entered into the calibration field for a particular rate. Even when a rain event goes over night. The other issue is the display doesn't have a battery backup. So out here in the country when the power blinks, you lose data, and the station defaults to a traditional rain gauge. You have to go back into settings each time and re-select Haptic Rain Gauge. Not something a farmer or ranch should depend on for accurate local weather information.

I recently purchased the Ambient WS-4000 weather station, and I couldn't be happier with it! The compact design makes it a perfect fit for any space without being intrusive, and the setup process was incredibly easy—practically plug-and-play. I had everything up and running in no time, even without extensive technical knowledge. What impressed me the most is its accuracy. The readings are precise and consistent, which is exactly what I wanted in a weather station. Whether you're tracking temperature, humidity, or other conditions, this unit delivers reliable data every time.Overall, the WS-4000 is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a dependable, user-friendly weather station. It’s compact, accurate, and a breeze to set up. Highly recommended!

Do not buy these. Unless you are prepared to replace the whole unit or just the console after a year or so. and get prepared for the $200.00 sticker shock. PITA to setup remote reporting and you share all data and you have no control and NOW ambient wants to charge You to see your own data. buy something else.
