First of all, I was searching and looking for a surveillance system for my bussiness. To be honest there are many many systems out there that offer pretty much same features and functions just with different brands.. I was like pretty much overwhelmed by the market. I just came across this one while I was searching one day..and then I just decided to pick this one because:1. I do like its design and the color. ( I guess there are many white ones out there, but for some reasons, it just popped out on me.). These cameras look solid from the pictures, and I was hoping that they are not made by cheap plastic.2. This system is not that expansive compared to other ones.3. It is wired system. Personally, I do not like wireless counterparts because I know they can be hacked..and I have seen that on the news..4. The 1TB storage main unit is a plus for me as well.According to the description, it offers many features such as night visions and motion detections...etc..I personally do not care about all these fancy features as long as they can work reliably. After received it, I installed them by myself (I have to say that these cameras are built with great quality). It is my first surveillance system that installed myself. I would say it does require some work especailly for mounting them on the wall and running wires. But the connections and operations are pretty easy, and please go through the mannual if you are going to do it yourself..It is working great now as you can see in the picture..I do not really pay attention to all other fancy features, but it does have geat night vision. I would say this is great system with all basic funtions you need for a surveillance camera system. Will update more once I have all features explored.

I bought this system for my house, and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to set up. I was mainly concerned with connecting to the internet, and being able to view the cameras remotely. I'm not an expert by any means, but the installation went smoothly. There were a few things I was not clear on at first, but with a little work with the settings I was able to connect to my phone and iPad to easily view whats happening at home from anywhere. The playback feature is also easy to use. Camera and video quality is very good. I was so impressed with the system that I recommended it to a friend who owns a restaurant. She bought a system and I set it up for her there. Considering that you don't need to pay a monthly fee for this, as with other home security systems, this is a great value if you want to buy a little peace of mind. It's easily expandable to 8 cameras also. I'll likely do that this summer.Update on my experience with this system. I did encounter a problem after about 16 months using the system. One camera began not working, or working intermittently. I would reboot, it would come back, but then quit again after a time.I was bewildered and a little frustrated, so I finally emailed ANNKE support. I have to say, this is perhaps the best experience I have ever had with online support. They were very thoughtful, patient, and thorough. I had called the support number first, and they gave me the email address to send pictures, and spell out my problem in detail. They were able to walk me, a relative novice, through the process of determining which component was at fault. It turned out to be a faulty BNC cable, and a fix is not a huge issue. All in all, this system, and the support staff is top notch in my view. I recommend it highly.

Edit: It's now been nearly 4 years since I started using this system and I still think it's pretty good for the price. The main weakness is with the cables that it uses. They are thin and of the "Siamese" design, meaning they share a common ground wire for video and power, rather than two separate pairs of wires. Better replacements are on Amazon when you need them. One reviewer included a video that showed a rainbow bar slowly moving across the screen- I'm pretty certain that was due to the way he probably bunched up or coiled the excess wire. You can't do that! These days the more expensive systems have color night vision and use POE, power-over-ethernet cables that look like your regular router cables. The Good: Everything went together easily and started recording automatically. The software is comprehensive, loaded with features and adjustments that you will be discovering for weeks, if not years. Trimming some clips and exporting them to a USB drive was simple. Carry the app on your smartphone to help you aim the cameras. The H.264+ video compression uses less disk space than most systems, but it's a bit unusual and may require an additional download. Fortunately, the DVR includes a player you can install on your computer. The DVR can simultaneously playback all four cameras in synch, which is pretty awesome. The not-so-good: The 40-page B&W manual is only a quick-start guide and does not cover many of the functions and settings that the DVR offers, nor is the PDF document even searchable. Customer support answers email quickly, but they couldn't do a thing about it, and there was no comprehensive manual. The player is somewhat quirky. When the player is stopped, if you position it to a spot on the timeline, it always jumps back to midnight when you click Play. So, you have to be in Pause to position the player anywhere on the timeline. Likewise, you cannot change speeds while paused. Suppose you were viewing at 256x, you see something and hit pause. Better write down the timestamp because you must resume playing at 256x, and then click "reduce speed" 8 times while it plays before you get back to 1x speed. Meanwhile, the video has advanced several minutes, so you hit Pause again and try to reposition the playback.

I am very pleased with this system and I will be buying another one for my mom. This is a breath of fresh air compared to my last camera system. I had a 6 year old Night Owl System and that was very clunky operating system. it was also nice that I was actually able to swap out the DVR system and still use my old Night Owl cameras for the time being as I swap out the old with new cameras.
