6 pc Bore Gages:
Telescoping gages are used for determining the true size of holes, slots, and recesses up to 6" (150 mm). The ends of both contacts are hardened and ground to a radius to allow proper clearance on the smallest hole the gage will enter. The final hole size is obtained by measuring over the gage contacts with a micrometer or calipers.

The thing that impressed me the most on this product, other than its obvious precision, is its quality. First thing you notice is the way they are packaged, inside a wood box with finger joint corners, nice latches and handles on each end. Then inside you see the careful packaging. Each micrometer is in its own sealed bag with moisture absorbant packs down in a foam lined slot made for each one. And this is just the quality of the packaging! Now, I'm no expert by any means, but a look at the micrometers themselves told me that these are quality tools with good features. And from what I've seen, a good price for what you are buying.

I used these micrometers recently to build the engine on my Subaru. They were very consistent once I got the measurement technique down, but like the other reviewer I had to zero all of them before use.I guess the best example of their precision was with the aftermarket rods I purchased. According to the bore gauges and micrometers in this set, the aftermarket rods were almost exactly .001" smaller diameter on the big end than the stock ones. I bolted both rods to the crank and measured the oil clearance with some Plastigage green, and it confirmed that the new rods had exactly .001" less oil clearance than the factory. Two completely different measurement techniques, same result, which makes me satisfied in at least the precision of these instruments, especially for the price.

Overall product is wonderful, however in future? Men put those boxes through all kinds of weather conditions. Maybe put some sort of durable finish on the box instead of raw wood.

I was a little leary of the low price for these micrometers, but when they arrived I was pleasently surprised. The only issue I had was having to calibrate them to be more accurate. I guess that's to be expected with shipping this type of item, though. I've used these micrometers to build my 402 big block engine and haven''t had any problems.
