This product is awesome. Love to have control outside the tank. Heavy duty equipment. Fully submersible. Heater rod is made of explosion proof glass. Nice led display. I altered the lid to fit the hang on clip. Easy.

This is a powerful heater that holds temperature very well.Compared to my marina 100w heater in the photo, it does look rather bulky, but it blends in just fine in my cichlid tank. When I first plugged in the heater, my current temp readout was at 76f and I set it to 80f.It took about an hour to reach 80f, which is fairly quick. My marina heater takes a few hours. The temperature has been holding all day, even in a colder room. My room temp at the moment is 70f, with the window slightly cracked open and the tank is about 3 feet from the window. It kicks in when it's 1 degree lower, which is more ideal for those with sensitive livestock. Some heaters don't kick in until the temp is down to 5f lower than your desired setting! You don't have to worry about wide temperature swings with this unit.I appreciate the exterior temp readout and control module. It comes with a hanging kit and can be secured on the edge of the tank. It does take a few presses to get to your desired setting, because there's only one button. It just cycles through to 93f and starts over. Pressing and holding the button for 5 seconds changes it from F to C readouts. The suction cups are very good quality and didn't give me any trouble, but time will tell.Another thing I appreciate is that it has a memory setting in case the power goes out. I tested it by unplugging and replugging it. The setting always stayed the same. This gives me peace of mind. The only thing I do not like about the exterior module is that it can be easily accessed by kids... and kids love pushing all sorts of buttons... But I am single and don't have to worry about this.. Just be careful and keep an eye on your temp settings when you have kids over! Or better yet, conceal it to the back corner. It does blend well in some setups and may look bulky in others. This is something to consider.Personally for me the housing doesn't bother me. I'm not a big fan of the big glass tubes. My yellow lab cichlids are too big to fit in the slots, so I don't have to worry about any misadventure.I will keep testing this throughout the upcoming season and will update on any changes.

I bought this for use when making salt water in a 40-gallon trash can. It works great! I have a RO/DI system in the house which takes a couple hours to fill the can. I plug this in as soon as the water submerges the heater. It does an excellent job of heating the water as the can fills. The water is always heated to 77 degrees by the time I mix in the salt and am ready for the water change. I love it!

I bought the 200 watt version of this heater for my 29 gallon aquarium and it malfunctioned after 2 weeks. Came home to find that the water looked cloudy. The display indicated that the unit was set to heat the water to 81f and that the temperature of the water was 78f. Put my hand in the water, clearly not 78f. I temped the water with a digital thermometer that I know to be 100% accurate and found the water to be at 95f. I was expecting this heater to be reliable because of its digital controls and its advertising that boasted about its accuracy and reliability because of its its dual temperature probes. It specifically mentioned that if a temperature probe failed it would not keep heating up the water --- “If one of the probes is broken, the entire heating rod will stop working. There is a double insurance to prevent the probe from being broken and the heating rod will continue to heat up”---. I should also point out that the advertising of this heater indicates that it has an over temperature alarm which never went off on my unit because the electronics on this thing couldn’t even tell that the water was hotter than 78f. The heating element was basically on 24/7 because the heater thought the water was at 78f when in reality it had already heated the water up into the 90’s. I recommend that nobody buy a heater over 100 watts unless it is really required for your setup to reach the temperature you want. That way if it fails there is less of a chance of it heating up your aquarium to unsafe temperature levels.

I have an 800 watt in my 125. Audible worked great for being out of water and did fairly well keeping up with the temperature I set. My community fish have a healthy range of temperate requirements. I set my tank for 77 and mainly used it in an upright pisition next to one if the filter intakes for the 1st several months until I could aquire items that would allow me better circulation for a more even heat distribution. At around 9 months I changed its orientation to a tilted horizontal one. This worked better but still my circulation needed some improvements to keep an even distribution. At 16 months, I rescaped my tank removing a dead central spot between my filters and added full accross spray bars instead of jets. This set up prompted me to center the heater horizontally tilted. After a few days I noticed tank temp went up drastically but thought it may have been my arrangment of hardscape and moss trapping heat. After some adjustments, I reset the heater and monitored it for a few weeks and all was working perfectly. The tank and heater is now about 18 months old and I almost had a catastrophic incident. My water was 91 degrees!!! Thank goodness my spidey senses triggered and I caught it before any losses. Please allow us more control for the audible alarm and max heat threshhold in a future design.Additional options for temp sensors would also be welcome. Thankfully I had another one of these heaters along with an inkbird ready to go. But dont be like me and try and stretch its lifespan past a year, replace it after 12 months or use another controller as additional safety measure.
