I purchased this burner 9 years ago and was on Amazon today to purchase a second one so I can have two pots going at once. The one I bought 9 years ago is still a work horse. Yes, it does have it's limitations but they are not deal breaker limitations for me.Perhaps since Covid everything is just not the quality it was years ago so I'm unclear if that might be the case with this unit as I read the bad reviews. IMHO people have too high expectations for such a lower end product. It's not the $2500 stove you just bought and will never cook like that.I have read negative reviews stating it turns on and off constantly. Well duh! That's the nature of this type of product. It has to turn on and off constantly to maintain the temperature you chose. Some state in their negative reviews that the outside gets too hot. Again, duh! It's an inexpensive small unit that used to be made in metal and I suppose it still is, so yes, the metal will get hot. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that will happen. When I'm finished cooking I unplug it. After I'm finished eating and am cleaning up if it's cooled off enough I put it on my shelf where it stays. I have many times used that priceless invention called a pot holder when I'm in a hurry. In case you have not heard of them they are used to pick up hot pans, or in this case an Aroma Single Burner Hot Plate.....that gets hot....what a concept!Again, with all the new lower quality items out there since Covid, cause everything is blamed on Covid of course, perhaps this unit is not as good as it used to be and perhaps some have stopped working after a year...or maybe two. However, when you spend around $20 or less for this item and it quits after a year or two.....trust me.....you definitely got your money's worth.

I use a huge frying pan and make 4 mini quesadillas no problem. And yes, the heat goes up and down, but only to maintain whenever temperature it’s set at. Didn’t interfere with cooking at all. I barely noticed it. I just wish it had an on/off switch - not dependent on the plug - but for the low price - I can live without it. No issues at all.

Given what I paid for it, I wasn't expecting much. I got it because I was tired of eating out every time I stay at a motel and this gave me yet another excuse to use the cheap camping pots and pans I have lying around - plus, for $16.99, if this didn't work out... meh, right?I just finished cooking some spaghetti with Italian sausage with this and, to its credit, it got the job done. When I first fired it up, something started smoking on the burner - I attacked it with a wet washcloth and that seemed to get the worst of it off. It never set off the fire alarm. The dial offers a range of heat settings; in practical use, these can best be described as "just hot enough to boil water" (High) and "warm enough to burn your hand but not much else" (everything else). In short, this is not a substitute for a household range element.Even so, it did what I needed it to do. It boiled water. It cooked sausage. Tomorrow, it'll cook pancakes. It didn't light on fire, set off the fire alarm, trip a breaker, or otherwise annoy management. It's not the strongest unit in the world, it's not the fastest unit in the world, but it's remarkably affordable and it still works. Given all of that, I'm not going to complain. Would it last more than a month if you used it on a daily basis? I kind of doubt it, but I don't need it to. It just needs to work for a couple days every couple of months, and, based on what I've seen so far, I have considerable faith that it'll do that.

I do cooking demonstrations and need to assemble a "kitchen" on a bare table. This gives good, quick, and consistent heat. Easy to clean. It would also work if you needed to heat a pan of something next to your barbecue or if you had several people cooking at once in your kitchen and were out of burners.

I recently purchased this single burner, and I regret the decision. From the first use, it has been problematic. Not only does it take too long to heat up, but smoke also started coming out after just a few minutes of use. This was concerning and made me feel it was unsafe to continue using. The build quality also feels cheap, and the controls are unresponsive. I wouldn’t recommend this product to anyone looking for a reliable cooking solution. It’s better to invest in something safer and more durable.

I had the old model of this hot plate for well over four years, and even then it only broke as a result of water damage. I've since replaced it with this newer model, and am quite satisfied. I live in a studio with no stove, so this is my only means of cooking. It takes about four minutes to bring ~30oz of water to a boil when set to "high"; and will easily fry an egg or pancake at the "Low" setting, which takes maybe 30 seconds to warm up to. The materials feel a bit cheap, though it is light in weight. I received this product with a crooked dial on it, likely from the factory (as there were no signs of rough handling on the packaging) but it was fairly easy to bend back to the appropriate angle using no more than a thumb. When turned off from a high heat, there are some strange popping/clicking noises made every so often from the inside, but nothing horrible has come of it. This is a fine product, and I highly recommend it to anyone who intends to use it as a primary cooking device.

Is very convenient to use. Just be cautions that the plate will still be very hot even though is already turn off.

This Hot Plate is so Useful!Pros: *Robust construction, *Convenient heat control with the knob, *Immaculate performance, *A good aesthetic look. *Because of its solid surface, it is more useful compared to a spiral hot plate.Cons: *The calibration of the heat control knob ought to be in digital form with 1 as the lowest; 10 as the highest heat generation rate. *Designed to work only at 110V - can not be bagged in as a utility when touring Euro-Asian countries where the operating voltage is 220V

Followed initial start instructions. Hot plate worked in terms of heating but the on/off indicator light stopped working in the first 10 minutes. The light is a big deal to me so I don't forget that I left the burner on (just like a stove has an orange light that tells you when the burner is on). Amazon won't let me return it either since they say it is not eligible for return. its been less than 30 days (less than a week) and bought on amazon prime. 0 stars if I could give zero
