But with the AccuFocus electronic focuser, those annoyances are a thing of the past. Using the pushbutton hand controller you get smooth, precise focusing, without vibration. Choose any speed from coarse to very fine. The DC motor installs easily and works with many Celestron, Skywatcher, meade and Orion telescopes. It's powered by one 9-volt battery (included) in the hand controller. Bracket, hardware, and coil cable are also included.

It works and is easy to install. It's not a sophisticated piece of machinery, but does its job well. The fast/slow directions are mislabeled, but this is not a problem at all as I just turn the knob to the speed I need. It worked well on my Orion ST80's stock rack & pinion focuser. I replaced the ST80's stock 1.25" focuser with a 2" dual-speed Crayford and will be putting the AccuFocus on a single speed 2" Crayford focuser which will be on a 203mm reflector OTA. I do recommend it for the R&P focuser on a refractor. It did not, however, fit the 1.25" R&P focuser on my 114mm Newtonian reflector. Just follow the instructions, put in a 9V battery, and watch it focus without the vibrations from manual focusing. I use velcro (soft side on the AccuFocus and rough side on my tripod legs) to keep it on the tripod. Again, very 1970s technology, but it works.

I have issues with this product. One, it eats 9volt batteries! I have yet to try rechargeable ones.Though I do plan to do so.Two, the hand controller is cheap plastic. But it does have variable speed controller, which I like, slow and fast. Not too fast. The motor is metal casing, be careful installing this item. Make sure the motor shaft and telescope shaft align straight, otherwise it will bind the focusing shaft and cause damage!Three, I don’t like that it’s made cheap and feel like a toy. However it does focus well.I have only three stars because the hand controller is plastic.Overall, I do like the unit. However I would recommend purchasing more of an upgrade unit that is made of steel aluminum, hand controller that is.

I bought this for my Orion Starblast 6 which is a newtonian scope for which it is not designed for. However it literally took me 10 minuets to slightly modify the mount that was included with the devicewith some plies to make it fit on my focuser. Now it works wonderfully, I can fine focus on high magnifications without frustration of wobbling the image. Whoever tried to do it knows what exactly I’m talking about. Speed control works great but ot is marked wrong way, not sure why. Not a big deal though.

The focuser I recieved was too weak/ poor torque and would not operate an easy AstroTech focuser. I switched it out with an older Astromania focuser , the older was a little better. Astromania or whomever manufactures these should make them a liitle more robust and they would sell many more of these.

Installed in less than 10 minutes and functions perfectly. Previous reviewers are indeed correct, the speed dial is backwards. I can build a bridge and get over it. I went out to shoot Orion with it moments after install. And holy damn, the shake was gone!!!!!!!! This setup is sturdy. The motor is a bit noisy, but who cares. This setup serves a purpose and excels!!!! I might look at investing in a longer cable. But this is not a showstopper. Bottom line, do this modification to your scope. You will not regret it. Packaging was perfect and the item arrived without damage. Astromania, thank you for offering this package. I have this installed on my Celestron 102 SLT.**** UPDATEControl box stopped working. I initially thought the battery had died so I replaced with a new one. No joy. After 12 uses it is officially dead. Motor works fine, it is just the damn box. I need a new controller unit. What a shame.

I installed this on a Celestron 130SLT. It does the job, but you need to exercise extreme caution as there is no safety stop on the device and if you over correct, it will tear up your focuser, since it has no 'clutch" to stop it if you run it beyond the limits of the focuser.
