I'll preface: I'm new to the car audio scene and not very experienced. I have no idea what I'm doing. This subwoofer seems well built and it does have some heft to it when you try to lift it out of the box and install it, but the foam surround is very stiff and looks like it has to be broken in for two weeks or so.I think this is common with "longer travel" subwoofers, similar to what Skar audio offers.Overall value seems great. You're getting a lot for a small price. The first time I connected it to my amp, both the amplifier and the speaker got VERY hot even at low gain levels because the subwoofer is essentially locked up and can't move yet... because the surround is so stiff and needs to be broken in. (I'm running Audipipes APMN 1300 amplifier in 2 ohm for roughly the RMS rating of this speaker).Because of this, I suspect I overheated either my amplifier or my subwoofer. I don't have any frequency response above 200 Hz. All I get out of my setup now is low thundering bass at 60 Hz and below. This works great for R&B, rap, night driving music, but I listen to a lot of house music where the bass frequencies swing up/down and it does -NOT- sound good no matter what settings I try. It almost sounds blown because I get a similar sound to a blown subwoofer when the bass hits in a faster dance song, but not -completely-, so I really don't know what the real cause is now.I guess I wish Audipipe would put break-in instructions manual. And their website doesn't really list any frequency response graphs, so I have no idea what frequencies this sub is good for or if I need to tune my amplifier bass boost to help it out at higher frequencies, ... or if my subwoofer is just simply fried at this point?I'm trying a bunch of different gain and filter settings and nothing really sounds good and my eardrums end up hurting like I'm getting bad clipping. It's more powerful by far but the dynamic range really does feel much worse than the blown JL 12w3v2 I replaced. Even with it's warped coils and bad refoaming, it still sounded better.

Sounded great on my skar 800.1 but thought it needed more, so I got a d4s 1200 and it blew the sub quick.. pretty upset. Looks like it could take 1200 np but just kept clipping and eventually blew.
