This auger makes quick and easy work of planting 250 or so green house starts in my garden each Spring. I can probably do 10 each 4 inch diameter holes by 6 inches deep in about 2 minutes. It works nicely in soil that is not heavily compacted or dried out hardened clay. A word of caution, the auger can hang up completely on tree roots or rocks depending on their size. If the auger does hang up, the user better be maintaining a good grip on the 3/8 drive drill or it will forcefully pull free of their grasp. I would be leery of chucking the auger up into a 1/2 drill due to their higher torque output and increased possibility of injury from a possible hang up.

For starters, I have very sandy soil where I live and very little clay, so this auger worked really well for me. I got it for transplanting vegetable starts in the garden and putting in a few fence posts. It took less than a minute to make the hole for a smaller post. I still needed a post hole digger for the larger ones, but it was way easier. I used it with an 18v cordless drill.

This can be a bit much for your drill if your soil is a hard and compacted. I think i might have damaged my 'team red' drill. This was after digging holes for and planting over 250 trees. It's still better than hand digging.

I saw some negative reviews and wanted to share some insight. For those that used battery powered drills and complained about battery life please use common sense a battery powered drill without a geared low rom setting will not handle a augur load.For those that burned a plug in drill also use common sense regular drills are high rpm low torque and will burn up with this load. YOU NEED A MIXING DRILL FOR THIS BIT. THATS A HUGH TORQUE LOW RPM DRILL.THiS IS NOT FOR ROCKS only for soil.

Used it to drill through clay with an electric hand drill. Except for it "spinning" due to not being tight enough in the drill, it worked pretty well. Did not do well on extremely hard clay, but I accomplished my goal for the outdoor project.

I rarely review items I have purchased but this is AMAZING! I have pure clay ground and wanted to plant some raspberry bushes. I am a senior citizen and knew it would kill me in this heat to try and dig holes for the bushes. I purchased this and put it on my cordless drill and wow did it ever do the trick. I had to drill 4 holes beside each other in a square to make it big enough for each raspberry bush but I had the job done in one afternoon with little effort. I am beyond impressed with this auger.

I like the look and idea of this product but immediately from attaching it I noticed the problem. The bit is crooked from the drill attachment! Even eyeballing it you can notice it’s not centred so the drill bit wobbles like crazy when used. Going to have to return this for a refund or ask for another which I hope is better!

This works perfect! Used to plant over 150 petunias with little effort. Used it on my husbands Dewalt drill. I only wish I had purchased sooner to plant my tomato seedlings!It’s very sturdy, and I’m glad I bought the 4 inch as I think I will use for most of the seedlings I start. Great value for the money so I HIGHLY recommend to save yourself time and aches and pains!

I like that the product has an auger portion that is 4 inches in diameter. The product is also surprisingly light which made it easier to handle.We were able to dig our holes to loosen up the soil and plant our bulbs. The auger allowed me to turn up the soil in a more controlled manner than using a mini roto tiller. We are happy with our purchase and highly recommend it.
