I really wasn’t expecting this little player to be so delightful to use. Love how everything is transparent, it can be powered by alkaline batteries or USB, which is a feature I haven’t seen in any other cassette player. It’s a very compact size. And the sound quality is surprisingly great.

The Burtowic JL-101 Cassette Player Converter plays well and will convert tape to digital but only if you plug it into Win VISTA or OLDER not later. It won't work with win 10 or 11. 8 not sure. Use the legacy version of Audacity provided and don't upgrade to current. Looks like Microsoft and Audacity have moved on but Burtowic hasn't, but the package never said 8,10, or 11. Five stars is not congratulations but to get this highlighted. On the other hand, I dug out an old computer and am happily converting.

Rewriting my review again..not sure if the previous review was posted.I had initially received this player and it didn't perform well. Laggy. Would get stuck. Sound was poor and distorted. Would not play some tapes at all (brand new or old), kept dragging. Basically, was not usable.I assumed, maybe, I had received a messed up unit. Sent it back and was sent a replacement, fairly quickly, which was nice. The seller also offered to refund my money, if I wanted, which was appreciated.I have been using the replacement player for about an hour now..trying different tapes..and this one seems to work fine/much better. I'm not having most of the issues I experienced from the previous unit .For around $30 it's a solid little cassette player. Cant speak on the mp3 aspect, as I've not tried it ..bought the unit to listen to my old cassette collection.I like that it's compact in size..while still having some weight to it. I like the transparent look. Seems to play quite well for the most part.I will say, I have reservations about long term usage...it does feel a bit cheaper in it's build, in comparison to some slightly more expensive players I have from the 80s.Hopefully I can get some good usage out of it. Every now and again it will drag a bit upon listening..but seems to correct itself quickly. The battery compartment cover, I'm not a huge fan of. It's not the easiest thing to take on and off..and feels quite fragile like it's going to break easily at some point..so be careful, as not to break it.But, granted, though very little usage thus far, seems like a good cassette player for the price. Gets the job done. And it comes with some accessories like a bag and headphones, which is a bonus.

Sound quality was good, got lots of attention on the train for its looks. The included headphones are not good.Never used USB feature. The play button popped off after a month of daily use. Tried to put it back but just wouldn’t work again.Battery life was great, only went thru 5-6 pairs.Good value, not very sturdy.Edit: Added a star because the seller gave us a refund without even asking. They clearly stand by the quality of their product and there is a good chance that we just got a faulty unit. Will order a replacement and update this review after another test run.

I recently purchased the cassette player and it has brought back fond memories of my childhood. This compact and portable device has rekindled my love for cassette tapes. It has allowed me to digitize my cherished cassette tape collection and preserve them for years to come. This converter is incredibly easy to use, even for someone with limited technical knowledge. Simply connect your cassette player to the converter, insert the tape, and press record. The device takes care of the rest, automatically converting the audio into MP3 format.I was amazed by the quality of the converted files. The converter maintains the original audio fidelity, capturing every detail and nuance of the cassette tape recordings. The resulting MP3 files are crystal clear and free from any distortions. The converter comes with user-friendly software that allows you to manage and organize your digital music collection. It is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems, ensuring seamless integration with your computer. I love it !!!!

Very poor sound quality... sounds muffled which makes me want to turn it up. Ugh. And then there's this annoying humming sound that you have to listen to in the background constantly. I tried two different tapes and tried them in this walkman verses my 90's stereo while using headphones. The stereo has so much better sound. Walkman definitely muffled sound. I will return it. Why is it so hard to find good quality electronics nowadays?

We finally needed to replace our vintage Sony Walkman cassette tape player. In the intervening years USB became a thing. A few weeks ago my wife deposited a group of cassette tapes on my desk to add to our local Apple Music library. After trying to use a normal USB-C to USB-C cable with no success in order to load the music onto my MacBook Pro—USB-C only ports—I discovered that the supplied USB-C to USB-A is specifically for transmitting audio data (didn’t know that was a thing). Anyway, connecting with the supplied USB-C to -A cable to our iMac desktop’s USB-A port worked well with tape player providing a good signal. I did find that the volume on the tape player needs to be turned up even though this is a line source. Anyway, I’ve transferred five tapes with very acceptable results. The limitation is the audio quality of the 30-odd year old tapes and tape players reliance on AA batteries. The player supports a 3v power supply, but none is provided. My four-star rating thus is for the absence of a three-volt power supply to 1) even out the power for better playback and 2) simply to get away from relying on batteries. Without Radio Shacks around anymore, it’s not easy to find such a power supply.
