This double boiler is sturdy, and beautifully made. The upper part has a capacity of about 15 fluid ounces.Why double boilers are sized by the bottom container makes on sense to me.This double boiler works very well for me. Very easy to clean

I try to keep my cookware to a few good pieces and this double boiler is going to be a good addition. It will earn its keep by not being too large, it's made of stainless steel and has a see through lid that fits well. Something I especially like is the small hole in the lid which lets out steam. The last thing you want when melting chocolate is condensation dripping into the chocolate. The handles seem to be lighter weight than the pots, but they're covered with heat proof material and are described as "stay cool". In the five minutes that it took to melt the chocolate chips shown in my pictures the handle of the bottom pot didn't stay completely cool. I didn't need a pot holder but it did make me wonder how hot it would get if left on the burner for a longer period of time. Certainly not a deal breaker, just have a pot holder handy. This set would make a great gift for someone or for yourself, especially if you've always wondered if you really need a double boiler!

This is a very nice product, but only the bottom pot can be used on an induction cooktop. I make oatmeal with steel cut oats, and that took approximately a half hour to fix using my old double boiler on our old electric cooktop. The process involves boiling the water in the "inner pot" on one burner while one cup of water is "simmering" in the "bottom pot" on another burner. I then add the oats to the "inner pot" and reduce the heat to a medium boil for ten minutes...then place the "inner pot" on top of the simmering "bottom pot". But I couldn't use that method with this set because the "inner pot" cannot be used on an induction cooktop.

I thought for what I paid for product it should of been a little stronger
