The Avalanche Original Snow Removal Systems with the snow slide was invented in 1977 and sold in hardware stores. It has been tried-and-true in Minnesota winters ever since. It’s now lighter weight and more effective than ever before.

Removing roof snow is necessary to keep ice dams from forming and to prevent structural weight problems for a home or any structure. Ice dams can cause damage to shingles, sheetrock and more. Removing snow with each snowfall is important to prevent ice dams from forming by clearing the first 4-8 feet of snow from the edge of your roof. For deep and heavy snow, the Avalanche! is perfect and popular in high snowfall areas because it allows deep snow to be removed from roofs quickly and safely.

To remove snow, place the Avalanche roof rake head on the bottom edge of your roof. Roll the Avalanche up and snow easily slides off the roof. Preventing ice dams from forming on your roof will prevent water damage

Important facts about ice dams for homeowners:

Ice Dams occur when temperatures drift between 10 and 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Ice builds up on the edge of the roof, but snow will melt above the ice ridge and the water will collect and flow under the shingles and into the house, causing tea-colored stains on walls and ceilings and destroying wallboard, plaster and insulation.

How Do I know if I have ice dams?

To determine if your roof has ice dams, or is merely sporting innocent winter decoration, look for a ridge of ice at the roof’s edge, or a bulging area under a layer of snow above the icicles. Those are ICE DAMS. You often have to remove the snow buildup to see the ice ridge.

The Good News:

You don’t typically need to remove all of the snow on your roof to avoid ice dams. If you remove the lowest 4 to 8 feet from the roof edge this is usually enough to keep ice dams from forming.

The Avalanche! Story:

We know snow In Minnesota! In 1977 the Avalanche was invented in Minnesota. The goal was for a better tool to remove snow from a roof than the traditional roof rake.

The concept was a “snow slide” that used gravity to allow snow to slide off the roof rather than having to “pull” snow off a roof. This would eliminate the hard work of snow removal, but the challenge was, how to protect the roof's shingles. The solution was a cutting head that used wheels to elevate the head just enough to keep the cutting head above the shingles. The Avalanche Original was born.

This was the start of a company devoted to roof snow removal products and innovation for more than 40 years. Avalanche started selling in Minnesota hardware stores for the first time in 1977.

Today’s Avalanche Original has many improvements from the 1977 model and is designed to be even more effective and lighter weight.

Came to the rescue for us and works like a charm. We had extension poles added on and a long reach up the roof, so it was a bit hard to move over to the next â€œsliceâ€ of snow, but we got it done and it works just like in the videos. I would but it again, but this seems to be made well enough to work several winters for us!

Iâ€™m extremely disappointed with this product. The fiberglass poles bowed significantly when I tried to use it. Iâ€™m surprised it didnâ€™t break; it the bowing was so severe. I strongly advise against purchasing this product.

Great idea ðŸ’¡ ðŸ‘.My extension broke out at the holes for where it "locks" . Appears the extensions are same gauge of material. Couldn't handle the stress.Again, great idea, need beefed up connections
