These have great feel -- hard to tell you're not on standard cymbals. Not as bright as models from UFO, but less loud. Best use-case: dialing back the volume of your acoustic kit with no compromise to feel or play-ability. For an e-drummer, these will give you the feel, but blast your volume, relatively speaking.

I replaced a cymbal muting method with the L80s in order to have a better quality sound. While the L80s don't have the same sound quality as my "regular" Zildjians, they do provide the lower volume I needed while still providing a fairly realistic (and more pleasurable) approach to practicing. The L80s combined with mesh heads, I have a way practice with very low volume on my acoustic kit with sound quality more realistic and easier to listen to than mutes on cymbals and drums.If you have a limited budget, the cost may be a "con" - but other than that I have no problems to report after a few moths of use.

First off, I have to say that this is a great product, which I will elaborate on further in this review. However, I'm not able to use it as I hoped I would be able to. I own a set of Zildjian Gen16 acoustic-electric cymbals, and I intended to use this L80 cymbal as an add-on to my Gen16's.I purchased the L80 16" crash because it was $40 less than the Gen16 of the same size. It's also significant to note that, prior to making my purchase, I called the Zildjian Company directly to ask if L80 cymbals would perform the same as Gen16 cymbals, and I was told they would. I beg to differ.The design of the L80 cymbals is very similar to the Gen16 cymbals, but definitely not the same. Both cymbals have hundreds of tiny holes to reduce volume compared to traditional cymbals. But the L80 is a bit lighter in weight. Also, when played acoustically, the L80 cymbal is not as bright or crisp sounding as the Gen16. None of that would bother me. The problem is, the L80 cymbal- when fitted with the Zildjian Direct Source Pickup and connected to the Gen16 module - does not produce the same quality of amplified sound as the Gen16 cymbal. I'm not saying the L80 doesn't work at all in this capacity. It does. Just not nearly as well.That being said, the L80 cymbal is a fantastic product when used as designed. It sounds like a real cymbal (because it is - it's a Zildjian!). It feels like a real cymbal when you strike it. And it is definitely much quieter than a traditional cymbal. I can see using L80's for practice, and even for performance when lower stage volume is important. Also, in spite of its appearance, the L80 cymbals are not as delicate as one might think. I play in a classic rock/country cover band and sometimes I hit my cymbals pretty hard. I've seen no signs of bending or cracking after months of use. (yes, I'm still using the L-80 with my Gen16's, and saving for another Gen16).Bottom line, if you're looking for an acoustic cymbal that is much quieter than traditional cymbals, I recommend the Zildjian L80 line of cymbals without reservation. If you need another acoustic-electric cymbal for your Gen16 setup, spend the extra $$ and buy a Gen16 cymbal.I hope this review is helpful. Happy drumming!

Volume cut significantly, and another quality Zildjian product. I use these while practicing on an electronic drum kit and even with headphones, I can hear them, but not disturb my wife and dogs! Similar feel and weight to the real thing.

nice idea Zildjian, but a but more tech needs to go into R&D, in my humble oppinion IM better off hitting mty slash at lowe volume and at leasot it still rings out crash liike, these "things"" are not cymbals ha ha, this crqash I'm returning . However I might keep thje hi hats, they are ok for wokring on hi hat exercises, but even they don't soudn liek real hi hats, I get a better soudj out of my Zildjian A;s form the 70s muted w a foam pad. The l;ow volume thing is a marketing gimmivck sadly, i fyou wanna play quiet get an electreonic kit or muffle yours
