This router worked absolutely fantastic. Right out of the box it was easy to set up, adjust and use. The variable speed is also very helpful.

I recently got a FoxAlien Masuter Pro table top CNC router. It came with a 52mm clamp for the included 60W spindle but it was a little under powered to route deep cuts in hard wood. It also came with a 65mm clamp to accommodate a larger router like the Makita or DeWalt compact routers. I really didn’t want to spend over a hundred dollars on one of those and I saw this Avid Power. I never heard of this brand and it had gotten good reviews. For 64$ (with a 5$ off coupon), I figured I’d take a chance. My Review:When I got it and opened the box, my initial reaction was, wow, this looks like a quality router. Build really nice, and nothing that looked cheap about it. It also almost looked like the Makita but red! It also came with a nice set of router bits, router edge and roller guides, dust hood, 3/8 and 1/4 collets, wrench and a nice soft carry case. And not to mention a pair of gloves. I really liked the fact that it had a soft start and only takes a second or two to come up to full power. And there’s 2 LED work lights on the bottom that are a nice bonus. When I first powered it up, you could feel the power and ran smooth with no obvious vibrations. The variable speed claims it runs from 10K to 32K RPM which for my needs is perfect. Since the smallest collet this router comes with is 1/4” and no 1/8” collets were available, I was able to purchase a 1/4” to 1/8” adapter which worked out great for my smaller 1/8” bits. The router also fit perfect in the 65mm clamp that came with my CNC. After I installed the router on my CNC, I did a test carve that took about 30 minutes. This Avid Power router ran flawlessly and never skipped a beat. After it was done, I immediately put my hand on the router to see if it got warm or hot after running 30 minutes straight, and to my surprise, it wasn’t even warm at all!My Thoughts:For the money it’s definitely worth buying. As for dependability, only time will tell (as with anything). Would I recommend it, YES, I think it’s a good buy with everything you get. If you’re thinking about upgrading your CNC router, or just having a nice compact router in your shop, then this Avid Power compact router is worth getting!

This unit does the job. It feels good in your hand and comes with useful attachments and bits. Overall, it has a place in my DYI workshop.Pros:1. Great value.2. Ergonomically fits in your hand.3. The variable speed is functionally useful.4. The power chord is long and quite flexible.5. The edge guide is well made and works well.6. The dust cover does a good job and fits my shop vac hose.7. It comes with an extra set of motor brushes and a few common carbide bits in a wooden case.8. It is surprisingly quiet.Cons:A. When starting, the speed oscillates a bit. Especially set on speed 1. Not sure if this is going to be an issue.B. I mounted this to a small Router Table. Readjusting the cut height is very difficult, if not impossible. As soon as you release the clamp, it drops down, even while holding the adjusting knob. You need to set your depth of cut correctly the first time and test on scrap. There is no fine adjusting an existing setting easily.

I am no expert when it comes to routers but I am very impressed with this tool It comes with everything you need to start using a router and that includes some router bits. using it was easy and my shop vac fit on the vacuum part of the router which made for some very easy clean-up. my only regret is not getting this sooner. I can see this as becoming one of my most used tools in my little workshop!

We built a porch (our first construction try). It came out great, but we wanted the rails rounded. Tried out the router on a couple of boards and it was easy to figure out and use. Porch looks great!

Nice little router for $65 - good value.Quality is okay but could be better. Just arrived and used it to cut a straight groove in a Cedar board. Worked just fine - got the job done. The up and down rack and pinion adjustment hardly worked. Had to disassemble and lubricate all surfaces with a dry lube like WD-40 dry lubricant. That helped, but this remains a very coarse operation. More expensive routers work 100% better in this area, but this does work.Running just a minute or so and I could feel motor heat - tells me this isn't a router to buy if your planning to use it every day in your job. Not professional grade but of course they cost 2X to 3X more than this unit.

This is my first router so I am not an expert but here's my first impressions. The router itself looks well-made. It has a metal body compared to some cheaper ones that are all plastic. You won't find one too much cheaper if you want variable speed (recommended) and a metal body. But there are also some features and extras that are included that makes this a great choice IMO.- Several guide attachments- A vacuum attachment that I quickly learned was a must-have- 5 bits that come in a surprisingly nice wooden box- When plugged in and NOT yet turned on, a red warning LED so you know it's plugged in and 2 white LEDs near the bit that help during use.- Both 1/4 and 3/8 collets- Replacement motor bushes- Push-button rotor lock and collet wrench- Very nice canvas storage case- Pair of light work glovesAll things considered you get a solid tool and everything else you need to get started.

nice product with a lot of handy tools. I already had another router that I now used with a router table. I wanted to have another one for small jobs. It is easy to increase the height of the bits, but is not as precised as the other router for fine tuning. changing bits is easy, tools are great to have and usually are expensive with other brands. The cord is really long so you will have plenty of space to move around, on the opposite side it can be in the way :)The only thing that is really annoying is that if you do long job or deep cut (you should always cut by small increases) it gets hot in a few minutes of use and it becomes really uncomfortable to hold it in your hand. The gloves are not really well made but it is a plus.I don't find the dust extractor parts really working too, but it might be my setup. Also the sound of the router is really loud...I think this is still a good investment as you get a lot of tools with the router which makes the price really interesting.

I bought it and didn't expect much. But I was truly surprised at how functional it turned out. It's got a limited max bit size as I found out that a 1/2" quarter round bit won't fit - It seems 3/8" round corner is the max it will do. It will cut 3/8" deep 3/4 wide miter tracks on plywood quite easily in 2 passes - just with the supplied 3/8" straight cut bit.Curious how it would perform I bought a router plate on amazon to use as a table router and it worked surprisingly well. In fact, I used this and a jig saw to cut out the exact insertion place for the router and plate. The unfortunate part was the aluminum plate turned out to be slightly bowed but that's not the fault of the router. As a table router it ran much noisier than hand held. I turned the adjustable power knob from the 6 max to 4 and it was a lot better. It could just be the bench or the plate needs two more new bolts to secure to the table.I have to say, although it's just a trim router and not a full sized one, I've had a lot of use of this - compared to the full sized plunge router, the fact that this small size is much more convenient for smaller tasks. For what I paid for this, I'm surprised how useful it has become. There are name brand palm routers that cost more - however considering this comes with functional starter bits, if you are new to this and are just starting to need a router to improve your DIY projects, this will be an exceptional first router that will take you a long way. Eventually you may need to cut that 1/2" round corner and you'd need a bigger tool, but this is good enough for me. I liked this tool so much that I decided to get a 2nd fixed base avid power router and use that as the bench router while keeping this as my hand held.

I got interested in this mini router when I noticed the low price and the fact that it is a Makita clone. I'm very happy with my purchase. Not only is it well made, but you have access to many accessories made for the Makita router. It work very well. It is powerful, and it's easy to use. If I absolutely had to find something to complain, I would say the bits included are of poor quality, but that's expected. Get yourself a nice set of 1/4in bits, and you'll be in business.I must also praise the customer service. I had a problem with the router I first received. I contacted them, and 3 days later, I had a new one at my door. I was very impressed!Would I buy again? Absolutely! Without any reserve.

Generally same performance as all 6.5 amp routers. Attachments are Ok, A bit clumsy, but above average. My edge guide had a small burr but is of good quality strong bent steel. Check for burrs and file off if present. Both roller and edge guides were slightly out of square. This may not matter for most uses, but brand new like that - not a great start. I'll work with it. The fence and guide combination have a blind spot under the baseplate where they won't fit - limiting your use of certain types of bits. This is mostly a trim router where portability is important; So, it has a very long twelve foot cord to help get it around. I really like that, plus a dust shield with 1 1/4" connection to a vacuum system, which would impair the ease of using a trim router "in the field" so to speak. (Kitchen counters, laminates, door hinges (to which this router is well suited) or other places not in workshop attached to the dust collector. It has a valuable shaft-locking button negating the need for TWO wrenches to change the bit, I like that. All in all it's suited for simple tasks as it comes out of the box. Also has a better manual than most. Not great but pretty good. Pictures could be bigger - they are tiny.I bought it because it has two LED lights in the base to let me see my work better. I will be wearing eye protection so more light is better. The base is milled from cast iron not plastic and the unit only weighs 5 pounds; Lighter is better. The lock handle is adjustable. If it's too tight, loosening the nut (just a tiny bit) with needle nosed pliers, will loosen it's grip, otherwise you'll never get the lock undone without hand pain, sudden latch release and all your fine adjustments go out the window. The nut is just under the handle when open. The fine adjustment depth knob works as well, is easy to incrementally adjust bit depth and locks-up easily and tightly if you've loosened the nut as described above.A wooden box of 5 bits is included (to mock your desire to use them). I like having the wooden boxes to protect bits. Stains up nicely and increases the value of the box when used to display five coloured pencils. In addition to the two LEDs under the base, there is a very important safety feature LED on the top. As long as the router is plugged into the wall (active with AC power) the Pilot light is always on. This to remind you to UNPLUG the router if you intend to adjust anything on it. The power On switch is a rocker, and the six speed 'transmission' is continuously variable like a volume control.Min/max spin: 10,000 to 32,000 rpm.The manual suggests a few tips to prevent overheating... Don't run the router on 1 or 2 for long. Maintain a higher speed, by not making deep cuts. Don't labour the engine. Limit depth to 1/8 inch and make more than one pass or overheat or ruin wood, your choice. On first use, run feely for 15 seconds with a bit installed to make sure everything is as it should be spinning. Then turn off. No rattles etc. Everything Ok? If you intend to touch, unplug it. Or else, turn it back on and use it.Never tighten the collet without a bit installed. You get two extra brushes when the first two wear out.The straight edge can also be used as a circle cutter.Lots of features
