This fits my handhelds (all of them) and it does prove to be more powerful than the stock antenna, even when folded. It is obnoxiously long, but when you need the distance and can't use a fixed antenna or even mobile mount, this does a decent job getting the signal out.More people need to learn how to use their mobile vehicle transceivers as repeaters, though - if they did then that, plus this would meet most people's needs for long distance HF and UHF communication.

I have tried this antenna on several handhelds from TidRadio, Radioddity, Baofeng/Btech, MaxTalker, Wouxun, and others. On some, it fits well, but on others, the base is too large (no fix for this) or does not screw down properly. In the latter case, the included washer works. The real deal here is that the folding option is only for when you're not using the radio, or at least not transmitting. While folded the SWR is terrible (as high as 4.1!) and will damage the radio during transmission. Unfolded, the SWR is very good (1.0 to 1.7 depending on frequency). So what's the point? I've resolved to usage of this antenna only when I will be carrying/transporting a radio while not in use, but also want to deploy quickly without having to install a long whip first. I have not noted any increased radio capability with this antenna over a good 771 design, so the only benefit is literally the fact that you can fold it when not in use.Is that use case enough? Sometimes I think it is. I have a couple of similar models that came with some radios that I purchased a while back and I do occasionally use them when the use case is right.

Works fantastic. Put this on my HAM handset and noticeably increased range. Great value!

I'm a long-time Ham radio operator, with an Amateur Extra license. Like many others, I've a love-hate relationship with the modern range of compact handheld radios. They're amazing low-price, and if used with a repeater system enable you to get great coverage, but they're totally not so good when used directly between handhelds, and with the short antennas they come standard with. The obvious answer is to get a better (ie bigger/longer) antenna. Yes, in this case, size really does make a difference.I tested this with a fellow Ham. He had a regular Baofeng radio, and I went far enough away, with enough obstructions, to make the communications between us totally marginal, barely opening the squelch, barely intelligible. Then I swapped to one of these antennas - just on my set, not on his - and there was an amazing improvement in signal strength and intelligibility. So, yes, it works. It is not too heavy. It's claim to being an official Baofeng product is of unknown probity, but the unit works, so I'll not dwell on that. It comes with a washer if you can't screw it all the way into the antenna connector on a H/T, and also a velcro strap if you wish to fold it over.It was shipped folded in half. I know the illustrations show it folded in three, but I preferred not to do that.Considering the low cost and tangible signal improvement, happy to give it five stars.

I ordered this to have an option for a collapsible antenna for some of my inexpensive HT radios. For the purpose of this review I have it mounted to my Quansheng UV-K5 radio. When comparing this to the stock rubber ducky antenna that came with it, I find that it does provide slightly better reception than the rubber ducky. The antenna came with a velcro strap that I am using to keep the antenna folded for traveling and I can just unstrap it to extend it to the full length. The antenna is a bit on the heavy side, but it does feel quite robust. The only issue I see with it is that the base of the antenna is quite large in diameter, and this may interfere with some radios. It fit on my UV-K5 and my TIDRADIO TD-H3, but it did not work with my Talkpod A36Plus Max GMRS radios because the diameter of the base would interfere with some of the housing geometry on that radio. The base of the antenna has a molded-in marking that reads as follows:136MHz - 520MHz12011-2710-018WBased on the above, I assume that this means that the antenna is rated to handle 8W of power.Overall, I would deduct 0.5 stars if I could for the chunky base that makes it not fit on one of my radios, but I will round up to 5 stars since this is a minor issue.

Many people think they need to buy a higher watt radio to get better performance but more times than not, getting a better antenna or dialing in your SWR readings will have a much more potent impact and for much less cost compared to a radio upgrade. This antenna gave me better send/receive strength than with the stock antenna. Keep in mind, the dual band radio you are probably using this on is not going to compete with a better brand radio at a much higher cost, so this antenna is not going to level the playing field. However, if you’re trying to get a little more distance or improve your read reports, this will get you going in the right direction. I didn’t have a meter to test the before and after data but audibly, I could sense an improvement. I am using this for a custom comm backpack I made so this antenna can fold while not in use and I can extend it while I am walking.73
