As someone new to painting/refinishing furniture, I have so much yet to learn.I've watched hrs upon hrs of different YouTube tutorials and it's a real crap shoot. You either get really solid advice from someone who really knows what they are doing or you get an epic fail (5 min crafts, I'm talking to you! LOLLong story short, I wanted to do gold gilding on a piece of furniture but I didn't have any gilding adhesive.NO PROBLEM, or so I thought. I'll just use another adhesive, one that I've had past experiences with and it worked well for the tasks at hand.It worked all right.Having never gilded anything before I had nothing to compare it to.Fast fwd a few weeks, I needed some more adhesive so I ordered the Barnabas brand as I'd previously ordered their gilding sheets (which by the way were Fab!)I initially thought that the 30-minute wait time was going to take forever. However, I'm in an arid climate and it did not take 30 mins to go clear and tacky. This made me happy, however, much more than the short dry time was how well, EVENLY, and SMOOTHLY the Barnabas adhesive bonded to the gilding sheets. It was like NIGHT and DAY! I would never have thought that an adhesive would/could make that much difference but it did.Gilding is a beautiful, messy technique that can't be replicated. As a novice, I found it to be a painstakingly tedious process but the end results are well worth it.Knowing what I know now, I would NEVER use another adhesive on such a large piece. It might have worked for something really small but if you're going to do a lot of gilding (especially over uneven surfaces) save yourself some hassle and invest in a product that's made for it.One lesson down....

I've never used gold leaf before, so this is the first and only glue I've tried. The fact that it goes on blue and changes to clear when it's ready is so handy! It worked great and my projects have been awesome.

I’m so glad I got the full kit. Having never done any gold leaf before, I would not have realized how helpful it is to wear the soft stretch cotton gloves. Use them. They will help you to not get the metal sticking to your hands as they sweat even a tiny bit will get all over your hands and not your project.I had enough Gold to do both of my projects. The only thing that is really depleted is the sealant. I sealed both. I’m buying more sealant for my silver projects for my bathroom. It’s a fun product to work with. I definitely came back and had to add more glue and then more gold.

I love this adhesive. It works very well on paper and paintings, which is all I have used it for (see someone else for use on ceramics). HOWEVER, if you buy this, I highly recommend transferring it to a different container. The seal on the lid isn't airtight, and if you aren't using it all the time, the glue inside will dry. The whole container won't dry out, but the inevitable bit of glue that seeps from the lid to the gap between the container and lid will dry. It becomes a nightmare to open, and I finally had to break open my last jar with a knife. Sadly, that wasted half my container. I am off to hunt down a better container before I purchase a new jar of gilding adhesive. If you can get a small, completely airtight container, do so *before* you open the adhesive up, or you may find yourself struggling to open it a second time.

Delivered on time & well packaged. It works perfectly with the gold leaf paper by the same company. I'm glad it came with a brush & gloves. It makes beautiful art.

Easy to use or as easy as gilding can be.

Five stars no doubt for how well it works. I used other adhesives in the past and none of them does the job as well as this one. Stays fluid and doesn’t dry on your brush while applying; you can see where you’re applying due to the blue tint; it dries in about 10-15 min; and my gold leaf sticks to it without peeling off when brushing off the excess. It really works. Now to the downside: as others have mentioned, it may arrive leaking… Mine actually leaked through the plastic bag, INTO the amazon outer package, so when I stuck my hand inside the bag to take it out… surprise. Sticky and hard to clean off your hands, too. At least that means it works, heh. When I opened the lid (which was loosely screwed onto the top), the inner foil seal was PUNCTURED, as you can see in the photo. That is either a manufacturing defect or someone tampered with it.So I got half a bottle as a result (after pouring back into the bottle whatever I could recover from inside the bag - some of it was already starting to solidify). Definitely not happy about that aspect.

This product works so well! If you are applying gold leaf to any product, it works! When using this product, you need to WAIT until it is semi-dry (with a blue-ish tint to it) and then apply the gold leaf!

This is a complete kit for gold and silver leaf.Following directions is very crucial. My first attempt wasn’t very good, so I read the instructions and went online to learn more. Now, my gilding skills are much better. You’ll receive plenty of leaf and all tool required.Save any small pieces as you’ll use them for future project:s.
