This tool is usually used with the engine alignment tool, you can use any kind of rod which fits the hole, make sure you have a stop with which your rod will not go past the installation tool.

Fit in aluminum ring very well....It does take some force to drive in , but it does work.

If you dont have this tool you can not change the gimbal.bering below properly... it makes the work so much easy...
