I have not found any substitution for BGE charcoal starters. I have tried other less expensive brands, and I have always been disappointed.I store them outside. Over the hot summer months, other brands have melted and gotten difficult to use. BGE charcoal starters never lose their shape, texture, or quality.

These work great, I have been using them for years. The directions say to use three at a time to light the Egg, but I have only ever used one. Just teepee some charcoal around it and they will start every time.

I like these because they are quick and easy. I equally spread 4 pieces out light them and walk away. I don't have to stand there and make sure it catches.

I think it's a great value for the money it's easy to use cleanups easy it takes a little bit of practice to get the vents right for you the temperature you want but once you get that dialed it's great
