It is made of durable cast iron with a cool silicone handle, enabling you to increase or decrease the air supply without burning your fingers. We have already treated the air regulator with a coating that prevents corrosion, so you can leave it on the EGG after use. Big Green Egg already excelled in highly accurate temperature control, but after two years of product development, an even higher degree of perfection has been achieved. The new patented air regulator is the successor to the dual function metal top. It has an ergonomic design but also represents a considerable improvement in terms of use and durability. If you completely shut off the air supply, your EGG will be 100% airtight and the charcoal will be extinguished. If it starts to rain while you are using the EGG, just keep the air regulator dry with the optional Rain Cap and prevent rain from dripping into your EGG.

This simple produce is a significant improvement over the prior BGE cap. I had the older style, but updated to the newer one and find it far more convenient, particularly when opening the lid. Previously the swiveling lid fell out of the alignment you may have carefully set to maintain a particular temperature and you'd have to regularly reset it. No more. The during lid stays in place no matter how many times you have to open the lid.And the silicon tip on the lid allows you to use your fingers to grasp it, rather than any metal part of the lid so modify it without wearing gloves or burning your fingers.Great job, BGE!

Easy to use slide setting. Essentially set it and forget it! Regulator stays in set position when lid is open. No need to reset. Highly recommended upgrade.

Cooking on a Big Green Egg is not the same as grilling on a natural gas or charcoal grill in my opinion. It is more like baking and requires that you know and be able to manage cooking temperature. This is done by controlling the air flow and this new top makes that task much easier and more precise. Admittedly, I am a beginner at the big Green Egg, but this new top has made a big difference for me in the quality of my grilling. Unless you are a seasoned expert, and even then, I highly recommend this top regulator.

Nice idea but the damper is not air tight. When closing down the unit after a cook the top visibly leaks residual smoke. As a result the remaining charcoal burns down more than with other dampers. Not quite engineered to spec.

Bought this as an upgrade to try as my 20-year-old flywheel cap for my BGE is showing its age. Nice upgrade. I'll have to run it a few more times, but so far I like it. Also, props to the seller for delivering super fast (much faster than they estimated).
