This replaced perfectly the defrost timer on my Whirlpool fridge. The mounting holes and the electrical connector matched up without having to fiddle with anything. It's working fine. I don't know about the durable part, we shall see....

Continues to operate without any issues after 3 months of operation. This is a reliable timer and a good value purchase.

The problem was an older top-freezer fridge that would freeze its coils behind the back wall of the freezer compartment every 4-6 months or so. I tried defrosting it manually but it would end up freezing over again until the fan could no longer move, which would prevent the lower fridge compartment from cooling. The way most of these top-freezer refrigerators work is that the coils that remove heat are located behind the back wall of the freezer. These remove heat from the freezer compartment and there is also a fan that circulates the cold air down to the fridge compartment. However, these coils also freeze moisture from the air so they build up ice on the coils, so there is a defrost function that periodically melts the ice using a heating unit. The defrost heater runs depending on a thermostat attached to the coils (this part) and a defrost timer part, usually located in the fridge control section. In the case of the fridge I was working on, the original thermostat had come apart and the top part had completely popped out of the metal casing. I wired a replacement thermostat in place of the original thermostat and also pre-emptively replaced the defrost timer controller using this part. The defrost timer was located in the light bulb compartment at the top of the fridge compartment. After popping that off, the time is connected with slide-on metal quick connects so the old one is easily removed and then this new replacement attached in its place. Took about 5 minutes. So far so good, it has been several months and the freezer has not frozen over again.

I purchased this part because it was one-fourth the price of the OEM replacement. The reviews were encouraging, although I realized there were some annoyances. I received it quickly - around 5 days. Annoyance #1 - No user manual whatsoever. Nothing in the package, nothing online, zip. You're on your own. LOL. It wouldn't be a big deal except that there's this little black wire that has to be connected to one of the prongs. I did my own research and found it needs to go on the prong labeled '1'. Annoyance #2 - The little black wire is difficult to fit over the prong. I had to use a flathead screwdriver to press it down hard enough. Annoyance #3 - The screwholes on this part are larger diameter than OEM so I had to go scrounge slightly larger metal screws to tighten it in. Annoyance #4 (big one) - With the little black wire attached to prong 1 and the unit screwed into the back of the freezer, the little black wire made contact with the chassis. When I plugged in the freezer, it instantly shorted out and blew the fuse. Design flaw. So I wrapped some electrical tape around the metal lead and bent it so it doesn't make metal-to-metal contact. The part has been installed for 2 days now and the freezer is working normally. The defrost timer is engaging as it should and the internal temperature is -5 F. Awesome. So this little part is a great value over the OEM part, but you have to deal with the annoyances of a Chinese-made part. If you're a do-it-yourselfer with average mechanical aptitude, you should have no problems.

Product arrived as expected. No instructions included. Only question was which contact the loose black wire needed to be connected to for our particular refrigerator. Checked various websites to confirm the proper terminal connection. Easy to install, once mounting holes were drilled out to allow clearance for the original mounting screws to pass through the timer body. Timer has worked perfectly for the past 24 hours. Would highly recommend to anyone. Very inexpensive fix for our 39 year old Whirlpool refrigerator.

Have an old Whirlpool ET18JMXMWR1 in the garage (top freezer bottom fridge). Freezer was cold but fridge ran warm. After some research and youtube videos figured out it was the defrost timer. Looked up part online, saw this was the new replacement. Ordered part, installed part. The old one had two green wires coming from a tab next to the motor winding. Just connected the new black wire tab to that one, some electrical tape and it's working. Just be sure to look at your existing wiring config and see where it needs to hook up as there were no instructions with this model. It does work!

I have a Kenmore model 72102100 frig (2001 vintage) that had a broken defrost timer. This resulted with the items in the freezer being coated with frost or ice, and items in the lower frig section getting too warm. The timer was a perfect fit for my model, and was easy to replace. Now the freezer and frig both are working as designed.
