Awesome idea. Got this lock as a cheap entry into the other locks that this company has to offer and was not sure if it would work with my 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor. Almost had a heart attack with first use. With the research I did before getting this I was fairly sure that it would work. Key was very difficult to get in and I almost gave up, but with a little patience and slowly working it into the lock it went all the way in and turned. The lock opened and I thought I was successful, except the key was now stuck in the lock. Shut the lock (figuring that maybe it needs to be shut to release the key, which I still do think this is how it operates) but it still did not want to release my key. After a few minutes of more patience and working the key in/out it finally released. The key had some heavy grease on it which I figure has a lot to do with how hard it is to get the key in and out, at first. After that I opened, closed, removed, wiped, inserted, over and over again. After about a dozen cycles inserting the key was a lot easier and after a dozen more removing the key was almost smooth. I feel that over time it will "loosen" up a bit and feel more normal, but it is fully functional with my Mitsubishi key and that made my day a lot better. I figure if you ever sell the vehicle any locks are keyed to then all locks would have to go with the new owner, or you would have to keep at least 1 key from it. That seems OK with me.

I love how you can key the lock with your car/truck key. It makes it so much easier to have the same key. Less keys on the keyring !!Great quality and durability for sure.

I first saw the Strattec BOLT one key padlocks at 4WD Warehouse and was floored by the brilliance of the product. A padlock keyed the same as your truck??? I WANT THAT! I'd hoped to save a few dollars by ordering from Amazon, however the price here was the same as 4WD Warehouse... minus the sales tax. Though ordering it via Prime two day shipping meant I didn't have to wait long to get it.When the lock arrived I was surprised by the quality and heft of the thing. It has a nice hard rubber casing covering the lock body, a thick 2in. chrome steel shackle and a stainless steel key cover to keep out dirt and moisture (just like your truck has). Inserting the key for the first time was effortless and twisting it according to the directions was met with a bit of tension and a quick clicking noise and the lock was now keyed! Each insertion and twisting of the key after that was met with very smooth action and the shackle popped right open. I was surprised by how much this lock mimics the feel of unlocking your truck door vs. the clumsy feeling of unlocking the average padlock. Plus it comes with a lifetime warranty!Two things worth mentioning though. One... you can only key the lock once, then it's matched to that key. So if you sell your truck, the lock might as well go with it. Two... Make sure you know what key you have as there's more than one key configuration available for Ford & Chevy. This padlock, part #7018519, uses the traditional Ford side cut key, but there's also a part #7023540 padlock that uses the late model Ford center cut keys (they look like a termite ate the center of the key). You can compare part numbers at the boltlock website though as well as look all the other cool locks they make... like tool box retro fit kits and universal lock cylinders for boxes and cabinets!I uploaded some photos showing the packaging with a tape measure beside the lock so you can get an idea of it's size (it's pretty big) as well as a couple showing the directions and the key match graphic for the 7018519 lock showing it's for early Ford keys.

OK , so another update on my Bolt lock saga. I contacted to company directly through their website, and complained about my broken lock. They emailed me a return authorization and a prepaid return label for my faulty lock. The process took a few weeks, but Bolt sent me a new lock to replace the faulty lock FREE of charge. They honored their 'Limited Lifetime Warranty' (whatever that is) so I am completely happy with them once again. THANK YOU Bolt locks !!So , I was so happy with my first Bolt Lock, that I bought another, and another, and another. Until I had a total of six of them. Today, one of my padlocks failed. Putting my truck key in it, it will just turn, and turn, and turn. Only if I hold the key just past 90 degrees and jiggle it and pull on the lock can I finally get the lock to open. This lock is used on the coupler on our travel trailer....... Imagine if we were away from home and could not unlock our trailer coupler to hook up and come home ! :^(I can no longer recommend Bolt Locks !!Original Review:This is my third Bolt lock that I have purchased here on Amazon....... the first two were both 5/8 locking hitch pins. I will definitely be buying more ! Its so incredibly convenient to have my locks all keyed the same as the ignition key for my truck. They are good quality locks ..... the hitch pins are even stainless steel (guaranteed never to shrink, stink, wrinkle, or rust !!). I don't know how Bolt has created a lock that keys to your ignition key, because that type of technology is still decades away. My best guess is they have put leprechauns inside each lock and trained them to recognize your key.

No extra key to keep. I am sure it is not the best security lock you can buy, but the fact I can program it to my Jeep is wonderful! Easy to program.
