Plug taps are ideal for cutting right-hand internal threads; they are the most widely used type of tap, with three to five threads chamfered for general-purpose applications. The included drill bit is matched to the tap for the proper hole size. The bit is designed with split points to reduce bit walking for clean, accurate starts. The bit’s speed helix design promotes fast drilling. The plug tap is recommended when there is sufficient room on a blind hole and tapping to the bottom of a hole is not critical. Made from heat-treated carbon steel, it is a rust- and tarnish-resistant tool. The rolled threads are more accurate and cleaner than machined threads. They are tooled to the most exacting specifications to ensure that bolts anchor securely. Laser-etched marking ensures size identification and won't wear off. They feature a precise flute design to ensure fast and easy chip clearance.

The only issue I had was that there was no handle for the device to cut the threads for the number eight. It is also too small for a lot of pin vices. I ended up using a small adjustable wrench.

Drill was sharp & drilled cleanly. Tap was oiled constantly with a light oil, while only turning 1/4 turn by hand , in at a time. Then reverse tap out to clear the metal chip. Turn tap in another 1/4 turn , then reverse to clear chip. Took my time & only 1/4 turn at a time. Re oil, then another 1/4 turn in, then reverse to clear the chip. Did this all the way thru the hole & was rewarded with a perfectly tapped hole. Take your time & do not rush.

The cleaning crew snapped the knob off a small dresser. The knob screwed in from the front, like a piano knob. I found knobs to replace those that were on the furniture but they didn't fit. The wood side was not a wood screw but rather a 8-32 sheet metal headless screw. I thought it was an 8-32 screw but they didn't fit. The wood side was metric, I had to make it match the 8-32 screw so I got the plug tap and using only a pair of pliers I turned it into the hole and it bore through easily allowing me to insert the 8-32 screw into the hole easily. A furniture refinisher said they could do it but they'd charge $150 to come to the house + $50 labor. This kit cost under $10. What a great find! THANK YOU!

Drill bit and tap worked perfect for my use in brass. Able to drill easily 1/2 inch in brass, for multiple holes.
