From the Manufacturer

In the midst of the Great Depression, two aggressive young men emerged with two new products that would make major contributions to the housing industry. In 1932, Henry Broan developed and manufactured a kitchen fan called the Motordor Fan that provided quiet and efficient kitchen ventilation. His creation launched what is today known as Broan-NuTone LLC. Four years later, in 1936, J. Ralph Corbett developed a melodious door chime replacing the obnoxious door buzzer of the time. His development launched what is today known as NuTone, Inc. Both men, headquartered in the Midwest, started their companies with a simple product and a few employees. Each expanded their companies, creating revolutionary new products that provided unmatched conveniences for homeowners nationwide. Both companies quickly became global competitors and continued to provide innovative, superior products to meet the needs of consumers. In 1981, Broan Mfg. Co., Inc. was acquired by Nortek, Inc. and became the lead company of Nortek's Residential Building Products Group, which was named the Broan Group. During this same time period, NuTone was sold to Scovill Manufacturing in 1967 and was then acquired by Williams plc in 1991. In 1998, Nortek acquired NuTone, adding it to the Broan Group and renaming the group the Broan-NuTone Group. Then, in January 2000, Broan Mfg. Co., Inc. became Broan-NuTone LLC, with NuTone Inc., Aubrey Manufacturing, Inc. and Rangaire LP as subsidiaries. Today, Broan-NuTone LLC is headquartered in Hartford, Wis. and employs more than 3,200 people in eight countries on three continents. It is North America's largest producer of residential ventilation products such as range hoods, ventilation fans and indoor air quality products and also holds major market positions in chimes, central vacuums, intercom systems, medicine cabinets, built-in electric heaters, whole-house fans, attic ventilators, paddle fans, ironing centers, trash compactors and speakers.

I did a little research before buying this fan. My bathroom was built without a fan in it and there was no way to out one above the existing shower. So the only way was through the wall to the outside. My house was built in 1952 so the walks are thicker. I honestly didn’t look at the instructions that came with it as I already had a plan. Cut out the hole on both sides. Put the outside hood in first. Once that was done I seen that it didn’t go all the way through. I was nervous but once I put the fan in there is holes for this purpose for how ever thick your wall may be. I bought the switch fan and everything turned out great. Super happy with this product and will probably buy another one for my other bathroom. The only down side is the fan is a little noisy but I don’t care my bathroom no longer has any steam in it anymore from the shower.

I have two of these in an enclosed swim/spa area attached to our home. Over years, the humid environment caused one of them to stop working. I replaced both of them, at the same time, using the same model. I re-used parts of what was already installed, such as the thru-wall ducting, and exterior vents, but I replaced the worn springs on the vent baffle with the new ones, and all of the internals. These were a great deal from Amazon, though one of the units which I purchased had been returned and didn't have all of the mounting parts. A quick call to Broan, though, and they were able to send just the missing parts with no hassle so I didn't have to return everything to Amazon. Good performance, and I hope another several years of life out of these new units.

I bought two of these for my two bathrooms - had to do through-wall instead of overhead style. I've never seen a bathroom exhaust fan that actually does anything but make noise. This fan actually makes a difference, although it is NOT subtle. The noise level is rather high, but it isn't objectionable in terms of the sound quality. It just makes it's presence known when it is on. My bathroom mirror doesn't fog when I'm having a shower, so the noise is the lesser of the two evils - it doesn't bother me. Installation was pretty straightforward and the outdoor hood has a good quality spring loaded damper door and good quality metal construction. I knock off one star only because the damper spring hooks on a tab that is tack-welded onto the hood, and this weld is blatantly visible when observing the hood on the outside of the house. This is the single blemish on what would otherwise be a very classy and unobtrusive product. Overall, I am happy with this fan. I believe it will provide many years of reliable service.

Moves a lot of air as advertised. Installed in kitchen with dial switch to operate. Could originally use on slower speeds which was nice to reduce noise. Has gotten gunked up even with grease screen and the flap only opens on full blast. Takes a few seconds for the flap to open. Would have to climb a ladder to the second story to clean so that it works again at lower speeds. Didn't take long to have reduced function so I'm debating whether it is worth it. We'll see if maybe I can spray it with something. Don't want to get into adjusting the spring and end up with an air leak. Maybe a little bit more powerful motor would be a benefit.

I bought this fan to go through the wall of an exercise room I use with my wife. It can get pretty humid in there especially in the summer. The fan works well, Is reasonably quiet and was simple to install if you are comfortable with basic wiring and construction. Broan customer service can help you determine if you are buying the rigt size fan for your application. I tapped off an existing 120v outlet and brought power to a fan wall timer and speed control on a 2 gang box. I can adjust the speed of the fan and the duration it stays on. I could not use a ceiling fan in my situation so through the wall is a nice alternative. The fan comes with a self closing external damper to keep weather out. They even make a model with a built in switch if you need it. I had to go through a 12 inch cinderblock wall and then my studwall but is was easy and inexpensive to extend the length of the fan sleeve with off the shelf 8" round duct from a big box diy store.

Used this to replace a wall vent in an old kitchen. It's much more powerful than expected so it's rather loud, but it moves a ton of air. The on off switch makes it easy to use, I just wish there were power levels for the times jet levels of air movement aren't needed.

Let me be clear, you will not be able to stay in the same room when this is running. It sounds like the grinder is in the entire time. Horrible quality.

Very big, make sure you read the sizes and that they truly are what you need. Performance is on point though, it sucks air like a nymphomaniac that's been deprived for a week.

The exterior vent hood is great. Very sturdy and the damper works really well. I had to improvise an 8” piece of duct work to reach all the way through the wall (block, framing and insulation).

I did not mind that it was loud since I was going to slow it down with a speed control. But, if you need a lot of air sucked out of an area quickly this will do it.I returned this because it did not fit my 11 inch thick brick exterior wall. 10 inch is the maximum.
