Exterior lighting requirements were 0.1 ft-cd average. Thus, measurements to the nearest 1/100th ft-cd measurement were important. But in dimly lit areas that may have been 0.04 or 0.06 ft-cd .... this meter would either measure 0.0ft-cd or 0.1 ft-cd.... So this meter did NOT meet our requirements. For inside measurements, this meter roughly captured office lighting levels just fine.

If you're here looking for light meters you probably know what you're looking for and what you need. In terms of electronics, this one works as advertised, and is a good light meter. I wish there were some more options on it, but in general this works for a lot of situations. If you're looking to just get a good read of light (in lux or foot candles) this will do it for you. Obviously not top of the line, but great for the price.

I needed to measure Foot Candles or Lumens for the County Detention Center. I lost the meter to do so, this one took 2 days. Popped the batteries in and off to the races. Easy to read, I don't know what else to say. It's not very exciting reading Lumens for an annual report.

I have a lot of houseplants and wanted to be sure they were getting the correct amount of light. I tried one of the cheap plant ones, but it seemed like it was not accurate -- the same light would give different readings despite nothing else changing.I have never used one of these but decided I probably needed to try one. Unlike the cheaper option I had, this one DOES give the same readings under the same light. I don't know how to verify the results without purchasing another lux meter, but for now it is doing the job and not giving any obvious errors.
