About Taps

Straight flute design, made of 6542 high speed steel. It is used to process threads of various through holes or shallow blind holes. Can process copper, brass, A3 steel, aluminum, cast iron and other materials.

Generally used in conjunction with tapping machines, integrated bench drills, CNC lathes, machining centers, etc. Manual processing is also possible. When operating, control the speed according to the hardness of the material, the higher the hardness of the processed product, the slower the speed.

Recommended feed rate:

Hard steel: 5-10m/min, cast iron: 8-10m/min, ordinary steel: 6-15m/min.

About Dies

Made of alloy tool steel, hardness and wear resistance. Used to repair external threads. When in use, the conical locking hole of the die is aligned with the screw of the wrench and tightened. The conical keyhole has a strong locking force and is not easy to loosen.

Suggest:

Appropriate lubricating oil should be added to the die-cutting edge when cutting, It is to be reversed every 1/4~1/2 turn to facilitate chip discharge from the chip hole.

Tips

  • Please be sure to take protective measures when working, you need to wear goggles and protective gloves.
  • Before tapping confirm whether the diameter of the round hole is appropriate. Be sure to select the appropriate cutting oil for the complex tapping process and apply anti-rust oil for maintenance after use.
  • When tapping, control the speed according to the hardness of the material, it is necessary to add water or coolant to cool down to prevent excessive temperature and reduce tap loss.

The RCA style jack has a 1/4 x 32 threaded mounting stud, see pic. I needed to mount an RCA jack to a 3/4" wood base. I used an E-Z LOK Knife Threaded Insert with a 1/4 x 20 internal thread. I re-threaded the insert with the 1/4 x 32 tap and screwed the RCA jack into it. The new thread is not perfect but it provides a lot of strength, strong enough that it can't be pulled out of the E-Z LOC even using pliers. Using an RA solder flux I soldered a wire to the end of the E-Z LOK insert for the ground connection, it soldered very well.

This is a huge lifesaver for cleaning up the threads and holes for vintage appliances, in my case a 1930's Hamilton Beach drink/milkshake mixer. These vintage appliances are notorious for cross threading due to zero give, a quick cleanup of the screws will save you dozens of angry hours later!

Die was too small for the holding tool

Every tap and die kit I have ever owned, and I have at least 4, has had 1" dies - except this one. I had hoped that since the product description has NO MENTION that it's 20 mm in diameter, that it would be the standard 1"/25 mm die diameter. Wrong! I have no handle that will fit this thing. Now, I have to look for one and hope that it will properly fit. Meanwhile, I can't use this die.

Making small screws with fine threads is difficult and if you only need one or two it costs more tobuy them including shipping so the cost of the tap and die is well worth it!

This is a rarer tap size as it is for a 1976 Harley Tappet block that had messed up thread. I got the tap and die day after order and was able to clean up the messed up threads. It is a good quality for price given that I won't be using everyday. Very satisfied with this tool

Scheint eine gute Qualität zu haben. Eine fundierte Aussage kann man erst nach längeren Gebrauch machen

This thread is not uncommon in fine machanics and can be found in both American objects as well in Brittish . However when getting this set for 1/3 of lowest price I've found I can cope with the limitation in cutting performance. The major issue is that the tap requires quite high torque to cut the thread. The die cuts with normal torque. I give my top rating.
