Bus Kote is a high-build, 100% acrylic, elastomeric roof coating, which is UV and weather resistant and is fortified with Hy-Tech’s ThermaCels. Bus Kote, with its bright white formula, is designed to insulate, seal, waterproof, soundproof and protect with a thick rubber-like, ceramic reinforced shield that expands and contracts with varying temperatures, as well as resisting thermal shock. Bus Kote was originally designed as an insulating, reflective coating for school districts to use on the roofs of school buses to lower the interior temperature. This energy saving coating will reduce interior temperatures when hot due to Hy-Tech’s ThermaCels. Formulated to resist over 100 m.p.h. wind driven rains, the coating resists damage by hail and rain, and insulates against noise and their corrosive effects. Surface Preparation: Surfaces must be clean and free of dirt, grease, excess chalk, loose or scaling paint. Paint will not stick to a chalky surface. Glossy surfaces need to be dulled by sanding. If taping off areas be sure to remove tape with each coat while the paint is still wet. Primer: Aluminum and galvanized metal, fiberglass, rubber and pre-painted surfaces: Aqua Prime #15 Rusted metal: Clean, wire brush and apply one coat of rust converter followed by one coat #18 Metal Prime or #15 Aqua Prime. Joints, Seams and Cracks: Apply one coat of Hy-Tech Elasto-Patch, elastomeric patching compound to all horizontal or vertical seams. Application: Stir thoroughly before use. Apply 2 full generous coats by brush, roller or spray gun. Roller: ¾”-1-1/2” nap depending on surface texture. Spray: Remove all filters, use a tip size of .024-.035 First coat should be allowed to dry overnight before applying the second coat. Do not thin or add other paints or solvents. KEEP FROM FREEZING Do not apply when temperatures are below 50°F. Coatings should only be applied when ventilation is adequate.

I did apply 3 coats of quality primer prior to applying this. Very happy with the outcome. Seems to be tough and I think it actually does keep my RV a little cooler.

22° cooler in my jeep after applying three coats of this. I did use the primer which I think helped the main paint adhere better. You don’t need more than a quart.

I followed the instructions and cleaned the area to be painted, and ruffed up the area's that I had previously polished. Applied the primer which went on really easy (just like normal paint), and let it dry for a day. Then I used Bus Kote which is a pretty thick product, but easy to work with and both products cover really well.

Not a lengthy product trial but after applying two coats of their primer, the bus cote applied easily with a 6" roller. Being easy to clean up, the second coat was a breeze because the entire roof had been previously masked off.Really preforms as described.

Painted my RV roof with the primer sealer Bond-It then two coats of Bus-Kote. It dries to a sticky white that attracts dirt. 3 months later the roof is no longer white with significant yellowing. Hy-Tech told me they no longer make the Top-Kote product, that it wasn't needed, and that the BusKote was reformulated. They lied. Without some clear top-coat the roof will quickly become filthy and uncleanable. Powerwashing removes the paint and doesn't fix the problem.

This paint reduced the temperature of the roof on my airstream trailer by ~30F in the sunlight. Measured with a thermocouple and confirmed with my hand - could not hold my hand on the bare metal yet the painted surface 1 foot away seemed to be at ambient conditions.

Great product - painted my Skoolie and the outside temp of the bus dropped from 132 degrees to about 108 degrees. That's a big difference. Adding FlexiCoat next. Thanks!
