While I know the intention of this is decking, I am using this to wrap the bottom of the legs of planter boxes I am making. Making I do one wrap across and then one wrap around to hold it in place and it keeps the feet relatively dry compared to unprotected.

This butyl rubber tape is good stuff, it adheres very well even to challenging and uneven surfaces. The tape stuck and I was able to form it around a metal connection plate that was slightly higher. It has enough thickness that I'm not worried about something breaking through it to ruin the waterproof seal. It's very sticky but not as much as some other butyl tapes I've used but that's not really a bad thing as it didn't want to immediately stick to itself. The only real complaint is the packaging, the sides of the tape roll are very stick and the label is just thin paper. Taking the label off completely was a hassle, as it broke into a bunch of pieces and stuck to the sides. A flat cardboard type label would have been a way better design and easily come off in one piece.

I've built my share of decks and porches. I've also demolished and rebuilt decks after the joists rotted from exposure to the elements. I doubt most DIY deck builders give much thought to protecting the joists on the first or second project, until they have to rebuild. This tape can solve that problem.I learned my lesson and started adding a barrier on top of my deck joists before installing deck boards. It just makes sense. That horizontal, exposed joist top edge usually gets little to no protection other than the initial treatment. The deck boards get all the love and protection, and then eventually replaced over the same old joists if they're still solid. That's seldom the case. When I started building decks the right way, I used tar paper/roofing felt cut into strips and stapled in place. It is effective but time consuming. This tape eliminates the cutting and stapling altogether, if the joists are dry enough to adhere. Sometimes a staple can help with that when needed. If you let the joists dry before construction, the tape works great! That being said, 50 foot rolls just don't go very far on a deck project of and useful size. My simple 10'x10' deck took 3 rolls of tape. By comparison, I built a 12'x14' deck with four fabricated beams made of two 2x4's and plywood sandwiched in between. (It was a long span with no intermediate support.) Each beam would have required a single 50' roll to cover. It adds up quick. Granted, the tape pays for itself in the long run, but the initial outlay may shock you.Even with the cost of tape versus felt paper, I still prefer to use this tape. Its just more durable and better sealing than felt. I can't yet say how long it will last. It may take 5-10 years before I install new deck boards. I am confident that the joist will last at least that long with the tape protecting them.

We are building standing deck at our backyard. This tape was purchased to covered Joist for durability and making sure Top of Joist is waterproof. Thickness of tape is good, and it is having sufficient glue to hold. The width of the tape is ideal, and it is sufficient for covering joist. From price point prospective it had saved a lot of dollars, and it is very cheaper than to buy in the store. Please clean dust and wood particles from the top of joist to utilize full stickiness of the tape. It will serve its purpose and will protect my deck framing for sure.

The tape is very high quality and thick. It comes with a clear plastic under the adhesive which helps when unrolling and ensures that it won't accidentally stick to anything until it's ready for use, and also helps from sticking into itself. It is very thick and the adhesive is excellent. It looks like it'll stick to almost anything. It is also thick and looks very durable. I will definately buy this one when I need more in the future.

I became a believer in deck tape a couple of years ago after rebuilding a set of outdoor stairs that rotted terribly in the joints where cuts were made and beneath some deck screw holes. Using this for a new patio under the tin roofing screws, it installed easily with a bit of stretch and great adhesion. This seems to be fairly standard versus others I have tried in the past. Would definitely order again.

Not only does this help to keep from having any squeaky boards, this tape greatly increases the life of the deck joists! must have for any outdoor builds!
