This is the second time that I buy a type c/display port to HDMI 2. The first one wasULT-WIIQ-US 6.6ft, DP 1.4a to HDMI 2.1. Unfortunately, this cable had audio issues, it stutters every 30 seconds and after 4 days it stopped working on 4k 120hz RGB. I researched a lot on these adapters and I found out that my RTX 2070 support type c video out display port alt mode, so I searched these adapters too. It seems that many of these adapters suffers from overheating, signal loss when switching in and out of HDR. Also, some of them require USB power. It seems the most of these adapters use the same chipset, but, it is the firmware that cause these issues. Then I saw that Cable Matters provide firmware update for some of the display port/type c to HDMI 2.1 that mention many bugs fixes related to issues that I mentioned. I decided to buy the short adapter and buy a hdmi 2.1 cable instead of the cable type, as the adapter is more expensive than the cable and it reduce the chance for it to stop working properly. The longer the cable is, there is a higher chance for failure. As soon I got it I download the latest firmware update from Cable Matters website and saw that the cable is on older firmware, so I update it . It takes very short time, and it works without issues. I can send HDR signal without losing signal, the audio does not have any issues and as I wrote in the title, it works on 4k 120 Hz 12 bit RGB. I will update the review if the adapter will fail.

Overall the product works pretty well. I used it to hook up my thunderbolt3 equipped laptop to my tv and it delivers the promised 4k 120hz RGB 10Bit as promised. Very happy with the product, would buy again! However, there are some small hitches that I can't tell if they are a result of the adapter, hdmi cable, or just the overall setup. First, when switching Windows to HDR the connection between the tv and laptop is lost so reseating the adapter is necessary for it to continue working again. Sometimes have to reseat the cable if I disable the tv in windows and try to come back to it later. Lastly, the usb-c port on the adapter is a little jank. Most cables I've come across have a solid click when fully seated into the port that lets you know its in, this one doesn't have any sort of feel to it. While it doesn't seem to affect the connection, it doesn't necessarily inspire confidence either.EDIT: It just seems to not like changes to the display stats. Changing resolution, turning on hdr, disabling display in windows etc. These can cause the adapter to not be detected anymore. With reseating and getting the settings to stick, they are rock steady.

This adapter provides a stable, reliable 8k@30Hz connection from a USB-C port with support for Display Port Alt Mode to a display with an 8k-capable HDMI port.I'm using this adapter to connect an NVidia GeForce RTX 3060 mobile GPU to a Samsung QN800A TV at 8k. The GPU is accessible via a USB-C port with DP Alt Mode, while the TV supports HDMI 2.1. I'm using a fibre optic HDMI cable, but a certified copper cable would work too.I've tried multiple brands of USB-C to HDMI adapters and cables, and this is the only one I've used that provides a perfectly stable 8k connection all day long. The 30Hz refresh rate is sufficient for most productivity work, but some things, like working with video, may require 60Hz.In addition to this product, I have a Sabrent DA-UCH8, which provides 8k@60Hz using DSC. However, the Sabrent gets very hot and glitches from time to time, causing the display to briefly show either distorted colours or a black screen. The errors last less than a second, but in a normal day of use, it typically happens a few times. As a result, I am using this Cable Matters adapter primarily, with the Sabrent as an alternative when I want 60Hz.I'm hoping that Cable Matters will eventually offer an adapter with DSC support that can transmit 8k@60Hz, but until such an adapter exists, this one is great for 8x@30Hz.

If your screen can support 4k 120hz HDR then this adapter does it all. I bought it for my LG CX but sadly gysnc isn't working with it as it comes across as a display port due to the compression algorithm in Nvidia control panel so the lg cx isn't showing up as connected via hmdi which seems bass ackwards from usual gysnc but gysnc on TV is basically VRR support. It isn't a deal breaker as I'll take the 4k120 via hdmi with HDR with zero flickering etc. Full support for 12bit HDR with full spectrum color and extended gamut at the TV's native resolution and refresh rate. Since 4k TV's are technically 4096x2160 you'll need to change from aspect ratio to full screen in the picture options in Nvidia control panel to remove the two black bars that appear at 3840. If if fills the screen a little too much you can resize the desktop or just set it to 4096x2160. Resizing is the most compatible option if you have a game or TV program where the HUD or crawl are obstructed by the overscan. This is another home run from cable matters

I have two of these.I use one on an M2 Mac mini with the mac firmware update that Cable Matters offers to enable 4k@120hz HDR, works perfectly, no problems waking up from sleep.I use a second on a 2019 5K iMac, again no issues at all, the mac firmware update does allow me to get slightly higher refresh rates at 1440p with my TV.The mac firmware is available from Cable Matters, it is targeted for the M series Apple silicon and not intended for PCs or Intel macs (you may have no sound or display issues). The firmware update can only be done in Windows and you can flash back and forth between the mac specific and normal versions if needed. This adapter should just work as is out of the box, however I highly recommend updating to the latest firmware available from Cable Matters (Mac specific or normal).I had one Windows laptop that did not work with this adapter until I updated the firmware.

I have the AMD RX6800 XT graphics card in my computer, it has one HDMI output, two DisplayPort and one USB-C.The HDMI was already taken by another monitor I use, so I ended up opting for USB-C -> HDMI to be able to share screen to my TV. Cheap adapters kept limiting my connection. One gave me only 24Hz, very "laggy" picture. Another would top out at 30. A third wouldn't even let me reach 4k.Then I decided to go for the recognized Cable Matters, and just out of the box I can turn up all settings without any issues. Thanks for a reliable device!Extra bonus star for the fact that firmware updates are available even after buying the product. That's was beyond expected.6/5!
