I use this instead of a camera cage because it is lighter in weight. It has two cold shoe mounts and two 1/4 20 adapters. I use it to mount my LED lights

This adapter converts my SLR camera's hot shoe to 3 cold shoe mounts. All metal construction is precise and very durable. I use it to mount a battery-powered video light and an external microphone to my camera. I'm sure you can think of other things to use it for as well. I see similar products on Amazon for a little less money, but $13 for this one is still reasonable.

Someone mentioned their camera getting ruined because this thing isn't secure, something fell off and was destroyed the hdmi port.I've been cautious because of this and thank goodness. Too many times I've had to tighten and retighten this thing.Unfortunately I need it for right now and it was cheap so I'll keep it and keep retightening it but I can't recommend

I got this adapter specifically to use as a shoe "hub" on top of my camera. I slid the adapter into the camera's shoe mount and now I can attach both a light and a microphone to the camera at the same time, and it's nice and compact.I saw some previous reviews where people say that their camera fell off after mounting it on top of this adapter. I'm not using the adapter this way. I'm using it on the camera to extend additional mounts on the camera... not mounting the camera onto the adapter. You can add additional gear on either side of the adapter or on the top. Works fine. Hope this helps.

I had a different plan for this originally, thinking that I'd mount my light panel to it and then to a GoPro or to my mirrorless camera body, but it turns out my light panel cold shoe slot can't accommodate the diameter of the threaded area above the cold shoe.In any case, the adapter is really well made and has a variety of mounting options for other cold shoe mounts and 1/4-inch mounts. I like the detail of the added rubber padding between the cold shoe and the underside of the nut that really helps to keep things from wiggling free and to alleviate the need to overtighten to adapter to your hot shoe.
