I've never canned food before, but my grandmother always did. I have already started teaching myself how to grow a garden and canning will eventually be a skill I need to develop. This is a very basic, beginners set from what I can tell. That includes some of the small, inexpensive, simple tools that are used in canning. Of course it doesn't include the most vital tools like oh glass jars, cans or a cooking vessel. I think it was a good choice at the time, just to get me started with a few things I'll need down the road when I get all the remaining tools and start actually canning. I'm happy with my decision. The quality of the tools is.....I don't know......probably somewhere in the middle. They sure don't look like the quality tools that Grandma used, but that was a different time. A time when people thought the world would go on forever, so they built things to endure generations verses building things long enough till the next cataclysm. Canning is a great way to store food for those long dark winters and during times of great crisis, social unrest or global and financial resets.
