It is seeing use in repairing electric motors. The starting and running capacitors are easily checked with this meter. So far, it has served me well. I was not expecting it to be as accurate as it has turned out to be, so I am reasonably impressed. If anything happens to change my opinion, I will update this review.UPDATE: I have been using this for a while and I have some mixed feelings. On one hand, it appears to be cheaply made, but on the other hand, it works well and seems pretty accurate for my work. I like the auto ranging feature. The display is large, bright, and very easy to read. On large capacitors it seems to have a bit more variance than my other meter but still much less than 1% . Neither has been professionally calibrated so either one or both could be off a little. Regardless, the readings are well within range of what I need. As I mentioned earlier, I am repairing electric motors (mostly 3 to 10 hp single phase), and based on the current draw when starting and running, the caps are within specs when this meter says they are. All things considered, I am changing my rating to 5 stars.

I am giving this four stars because is just seems like something cheap you would pick out of a sales discount tray at your local farm supply store. My main reason for getting this is airconditoner units like to blow the capacitor it seems and I wanted to be able to check them out if they are good or not but the reading on this meter seems to be all over the place. Checked out a couple capacitors that I had that I know was good and 3 times testing them gave me three different readings on each of them, more than %20 error difference on each reading so accuracy on this I would say not really.

I used this to test a cat audio capacitor. The cap was labeled 5 farads, but I suspected it was 3. This have readings of anywhere from 16 to 33 farads. I would have understood up to 20% error, but not 100s of percent; that makes this fairly useless. It also feels very cheap and overpriced for what is is. Batteries are not even included. The directions are poorly written, and the device is not as simple to use as they make it seem. This is a hard pass in my opinion. I'll pick up a cheaper one with better ratings next; there are plenty of cheaper options that should work better and be easier to use.

My original reason for ordering this was to hopefully do some electronics repair on some old broken items I have sitting around; however, it appears that, based on my limited knowledge, the instructions, and the few online instructional videos I could find related to capacitor testing, this model, with its short rounded alligator clips and its limited display capabilities, is intended for testing uninstalled capacitors to see if they can be used. I don't have any capacitors lying around.Again, I'm barely a student in electronics (a "nooby" if you will) but I've done enougj computer, iPad, and iPhone repairs, as well as the pricing of things like multimeters and soldering kits, to be able to place a basic value on something like this tester. If I paid the full list price, which is, in some cases, twice the price of a decent multimeter, I'd feel disappointed in my decision. For the list price provided, all you get is the cheap plastic meter, with its ugly display, and 6-inch alligator clips. Even the two AA batteries it takes aren't included. I'm giving the tester three stars based on the price/value factor.

I have needed on e of these for some time, I have an old Heathkit tester but it needs to be repaired. This one is portable and lets me test the old capacitors in the vintage electronics I work on. Easy to use, nice display. Comes with clips (I like to use it this way) or you can plug the capacitor directly into the socket on the tester. Runs on 2 AA batteries.

This little meter is an excellent way for quickly measuring the rating of capacitors. I've had similar ones to compare it to, and this compares very favorably to the other ones. This measures both capacitance and ESR, which gives a good indication of the quality of the capacitor. Typically a lower value ESR which stands for equivalent series resistance is better. A higher ESR will result in more heat. Lower ESR generates less heat, and generally speaking means the capacitor will last longer. The meter is very easy to operate. Simply place the capacitor in the test area pins, or use the test probes and then measure the capacitor. Make sure the capacitor is discharged first.

This capacitor tester has turned out to be quite functional, although it comes with a few caveats. To begin with, it's incredibly lightweight and battery-powered, making it easy to transport and use on the go. In terms of performance, it has worked well so far, providing accurate readings and fulfilling its intended purpose effectively. However, there are a few areas where this product falls short. The build quality leaves much to be desired. It feels quite cheaply made, with a flimsy plastic casing that doesn't inspire much confidence in its durability. For the price point, I'd expected something a bit more robust and well-constructed.Despite the concerns about its build, the tester performs its job reliably. It's straightforward to operate, and the display is clear and easy to read. Portability is a plus, especially for those who need to conduct tests in various locations. While this capacitor tester works well and does what it's supposed to, it seems overpriced for what you get. The quality of the materials used for construction feels lacking, which is disappointing given the cost.
