I ordered a pair of these and both kids are very excited to use them. Overall, it's a nice outdoor toy with fun features and without any sharps or knives. So far, the microscope is the favorite function.Oddly, on one of the two, the quartz clock will set but doesn't keep time. Seems like a total fluke, so having it replaced.Update: clock works as expected on the replacement. Great fun.

My 10 year old loves this! The telescope and magnifying lens are really good quality, the whistle is your standard, annoying whistle, the compass works and you can set the date and time. Definitely recommend!

It’s a very good scope, considering the cost.I got one about 2 years ago for my daughter, and just picked up 2 more to give as gifts.The microscope is probably the best feature. One thing I have learned is that the LED light in this does not get very bright if 1.25V rechargeable batteries used. Alkaline or lithium 1.5V required for actual usable brightness.The whistle is loud and clear. At first I thought something must have broke inside this scope during transit because the scope rattled when picked up and moved around. But then I realized that it was the pea of the whistle.The little 9x swing out magnifier works OK, it’s lens is plastic so the magnified view through it is a little warped, but still clear enough that fine print is legible.The telescope function works fairly well, but needs a very steady hand to see much through it.As noted in some other reviews, the compass does not work well while batteries are in. Close proximity to the batteries pretty much make the compass useless. having batteries in it for extended periods does not ruin the magnetic properties of the compass, however. I suspect a small amount of EMF created by the battery constantly powering the clock is what upsets the compass.The clock does not keep time well. Oh well, it’s not needed at all.

I didn't expect this toy to be nearly as awesome as it was for my 5 year old (my 8 year old even likes it and steals it from his brother all the time). Heck it's even fun for an adult to use. ALL the functions described ACTUALLY WORK and work well. My husband and I even got a kick out of looking at the kitchen counter granite. Durability - he's had it for 6 months and it still looks new, but I've also cautioned him against banging or dropping it.Most unexpected use...needed a lighted magnification to remove a splinter from my son's hand and this toy was all I had handy. It worked great and I actually went looking for it again to remove another splinter several weeks later.This is such an inexpensive item but the amount of use it's gotten was well worth the price. This is the 3rd toy of this type we've purchased and this is by far the best.

I was looking for a tool for my 9 year old bug collecting son for Christmas. I wanted something with a compass, microscope, and a few other things. When I saw this I thought it was awesome and it had everything he wanted plus some. When I ordered it and received it, it looked ver nice and everything seemed to work just fine. When he opened it for x-mas he just loved it because he had a microscope and a telescope too. He also went a little overboard with the whistle.... lol Well it didn't last very long. The light died just two months after he received it and the clock never really worked. I would set the clock for my son and by the next day it would be back to 12:00 blinking. I am dissapointed with this purchase. It's now in a bin on his shelf just waiting for our next goodwill pickup.

Good Quality product. My 11 girl said now I have one more world to explore. She is seeing every surface from this. If possible than increase the range of lenses.
