After taking down my old fan and buying a new one I decided to fix it as it has been up since 1994 and except for the pull chain worked and looks like new. But, I had to take the whole fan down to get out stripped screws, some having to be drilled out. Put the new part in and hoped I put the wires in the right holes, turned it on and it works. So I am keeping the new fan and leaving this one for when I sell my house. If you don't have to take your whole fan down it is a much easier fix.
