I will use this splicing fid for work with polyethylene rope. Though I have not yet used this particular purchase I’m confident that the 3/8” Samson fid will do all that I need. I’m grateful for suppliers whose products can be trusted and that’s why I bought this item.

This is a very solid fid. My four stars is due to the end of the fid only having minimal depth to feed the rope into to pass it through. I just thought it could be a little deeper. Now, please note, I am very new at this and there may be very good reason they are built this way.

This item works great, just too bad the smaller sizes aren't available without having to buy the entire kit.

This tool makes it easy to make loops in the winch line. I took and tapered the rope end then installed it into the fid. Then I took some electrical tape and taped the fid to the rope and started fishing it through. Worked great.

These fids are made in the USA by the Samson Co. and sold by an American company headquartered in the State of Washington. Excellent communication and service and a quality product. An instructional DVD was included in my order and I'll soon be on my way to making quality splices.

The strands of the rope I’m trying to braid are right at about 1/4 of an inch, maybe a 16th or two larger.I thought I was ordering a quarter inch -INNER- diameter needle to stick the rope strand into, but this hole is barely 3/16 and much too small for what I was intending.I will be returning it for a refund as well as ordering another that will hopefully be the correct (INNER) size.I just went back into some of the other comments and I found two more individuals that discuss the discrepancy between the inner diameter measurement and the outer diameter. It is a very confusing reference point that listing a quarter inch is not used for quarter inch rope.A quarter inch is the outer diameter which will not allow you to put 1/4 inch rope inside of it.What really really needs to be listed here is the inner diameter of the needle because that’s the only measurement that really matters.

I gave this five stars because it is what it is, it is just an aluminum rod with a pointed end and a hollowed out end, but for the job it does it is perfect!

The size shown is the measured outside diameter of the FID (not the for the size of the cordage to spliced)order one or two sizes larger than the cordage that you are splicing. Example, a 1/4" synthetic winch line requires a 5/16" FID.

not what I thought I was getting. I was not expecting to get just one fid
