I really like using this setup over a cutoff blade. I run it upside down with the lathe running in reverse and get much better results and much less "pucker" factor.

The insert bars are as good quality as you would get from the usual industrial houses for a lot more money. The inserts I count as a freebee, so I just accept them. They don't appear to be very sharp, judging from the surface finish in HRS and the irregular chips they throw. Just figure to use them a disposable roughing inserts and buy some Iscars. All in all, for the reasonable price, pretty good deal.

The holder is too soft, when cutting steel the insert jams deeper into the holder and breaks. I bought two of these cut off tools same result both times.

Appears to be a good tool for steel parting

The 7mm bar will let you open a bore with a 3/8" drill bit, these tiny bars can really give you a ton of options and save your drill bits when you need to start a bore on flat stock.Despite their low cost I've run them with with a lot of stick out at times, and they've performed as well as you can expect from a tiny boring bar. Well worth the price.

I've used and abused these holders on a variety of steels plastics aluminium alloys and stainless steels in the last year. They have bien an amazing all around tool and I've done 90% of all my lathe work with this kit.
