This makes great cold brew coffee-- half a cup of coffee in filter (yes, cold brew takes more grounds than regularly brewed hot coffee), one quart of water, 24 hours. The filter is double layered, not too much sediment at the bottom of the glass. After 24 hours you can take the filter out and store the jar with lid in the fridge. It comes with a standard quart Ball jar. It's glass. Don't stir it with a metal spoon. Don't pour boiling water into it. Also, it won't leak if you make sure the gasket is seated correctly (the gasket was separate in the box and had to be placed into the cap.).

I grow lots of herbs for my teas and the giant mesh steeper was just what I was looking for, the jar and handle was a nice bonus. I have used it for cold and hot brewing of my teas, and while I prefer hot, it works well either way. Very happy with this purchase.
