The easiest way to spray a professional finish!

Produces a beautiful traditional Nitro lacquer finish, without elaborate spray equipment. ColorTone Aerosol Guitar Lacquer is formulated especially for musical instruments. Fast-drying and resistant to alcohol and water, it produces a hard, durable finish that enhances the beauty of the wood.

This clear Nitro guitar lacquer can be applied over smooth bare wood, sanded basecoats of grain filler, ColorTone Sanding Sealer, and over ColorTone Stains. Perfect for touch-up work, or for finishing an entire instrument. The rotating-tip nozzle can spray a horizontal or vertical pattern.

Aerosol spraying is an economical way for the beginner to apply a first finish without elaborate setup or equipment. Aerosols produce a slightly rougher surface than spray guns, however, and more sanding may be needed for a level surface.

ColorTone Nitro lacquer comes in 4 different formulas (each sold separately): Clear Vinyl Sealer, Clear Sanding Sealer, Clear Gloss, Clear Satin

13-ounce spray can.

How many cans do you need?

Electric guitar neck: 2 to 3 cans lacquer (no sealer needed)

Solid body electric: 1 can sealer + 3 to 4 cans lacquer

Acoustic or archtop guitar: 1 can sealer + 4 to 6 cans lacquer

Mandolin or dulcimer: 1 can sealer + 3 to 4 cans lacquer

Banjo rim and neck: 1 can sealer + 3 to 4 cans lacquer

Ukulele: 1 can sealer + 2 to 3 cans lacquer

Number of cans needed may vary depending on how heavy the coats are applied, number of coats, and desired thickness on your instrument.

Use warm lacquer, not cold! Pro shops spray heated lacquer because cold lacquer spatters, requiring extra sanding. You should warm up your aerosol lacquer too, simply soak them in a sink of warm tap water. We recommend spraying multiple thin coats, in a low humidity environment.

This stuff is great. Sprays well, goes on easy and dries quickly. I recently did a Tele Thinline, a Tele neck and a Strat neck all with this same finish. Had no trouble with any of them. For the most part his stuff will spray beautifully for the entire can. The occasional can will start to 'spit' towards the end. If so, just stop and move to a new can. Leave the last 3% for the guitar gods. But you will love the results if you just follow their basic instructions. I was able to polish the thinline and both necks to a mirror shine and they look factory grade. Highly recommended.

I build telecaster and fendercaster bodies, and build guitars using Fender necks etc. I had cut out fiver ash bodies and a couple of spruce bodies, I built a spruce body and put this product on the body after using pore filler. I sprayed four coats on, let it sit overnight, dry sanded to level with 700 grit, reppeated the process three more times until I had a total of 16 coats on. I then let it sit for four days. I then wet sanded with 1000 grit, then 1200 grit. Let it sit for a couple of days, then buffed it out. It looks fabulous. I put a Bigsby tailpiece, a brown tortoise shell pickguard, a Fender Nashville neck and WIlkinson pickups. It sounds and looks terrific, just as nice as my Fender factory made Tele. Highly recommend it especially if you don't have the room or equipment to spray with a compressor and paint gun.

Outstanding product. I was really bummed when I sprayed on my 10th of 12 coats of lacquer and the blushing was offal. I shouldn't have sprayed when the humidity was too high. This stuff came to the rescue with ease. Blushing disappeared as soon as I used it. Fantastic, sigh of relief.

This product works great, and is far superior to the kind of lacquer sold in hardware stores. The Color Tone Aerosol Guitar Lacquer gave a professional appearance to my guitar headstock restoration.

This is an excellent spray lacquer. It can't match a factory finish, of course, but it come pretty close. It does take at least three coats to get the finish good looking. And one has to be careful not to spray too much on in a single coat. Better to do three of four thin coats. A dust-free environment helps, too

This was my first attempt at refinishing a guitar, and this lacquer almost made it look like I know what I'm doing! The instructional video was really helpful, product goes on really easy, I only had a few drips to sand down and really no orange peel to speak of. I lost count but I probably got 7 or 8 coats out of the can. Might've gotten a few more but I put it on thicker as I got braver. I'm really pleased with the finished guitar and highly recommend the product. It's a little pricey but worth it.
