This is a fairly generic fluid-filled compass wrapped in a metal shell. You have to hold it level, else the needle will get stuck against the upper/lower parts of the sealed envelope. That's pretty normal with a compass like this, though. My only complaint is that it can be a little difficult to open. The housing looks really good, and seems to be brass. It doesn't seem like anodized aluminum, as taking a file to it doesn't reveal any silvery color. It's also non-magnetic. The bottom feels sturdy, but the flippy lid feels a little flimsy. As for functionality, it's just fine as long as you keep it level. The needle, bezel, and a couple of dots on north are all phosphorescent, although don't last long when the lights go out. That's pretty typical with glow-in-the-dark coatings, though. The bezel rotates to allow orienteering. Print quality for the backing is great.Overall, it's functional as long as you keep it level. It would also make a great prop for a play or costume. I don't really have anything major to complain about, aside from how thin the lid is and how it can be difficult to open.

Looks as Good in person as in Ad. Light Weight gives a BUDGET feel. Not a Durable design. It looks good, but BUDGET built.Best used as a a kids toy, or desk piece.Design and Manufacture is NOT too durable.

Classified as a "toy," but that's a bit misleading. It is brass, only the directional dial and "crystal" are plastic. Doesn't have the accuracy and ease of detailed degrees a serious hiker or camper might want but it is a very nice piece for teaching yourself or children how to use a compass.I have found walking around my city (Washington, DC) that when I've been forced to take detours because of road blockage or motorcades, and wind up among unfamiliar street names, it's always on days my battery is low. Right? This is light enough to throw into a computer bag or backpack and makes me feel like I have some skills, too.

this looks just as it's pictured and seems like it's a nice durable grade for hiking. I felt like we had to try to align it multiple times to get it to function properly. My husband didn't have any issues with it, but I felt like it took a lot of times to calibrate it.

This is a pretty cheap Chinese made toy. I works but it is flimsy and not very accurate.
